Love their look. Considered bias ply tires for authenticity, but too expensive. The scalloped wheel wells may have been done for clearance sake. There is not a ding in the bed, and the truck came with very nice camper mirrors, so my guess is the previous owner may have had a camper in it. The work on the wheel wells is flawless. I flared the rear fenders in my Stingray for wider tires back in 1963. Perhaps another reason for the enlarged arches. When hauling a yard of sand, I appreciated the mod. Engine colors were chosen to match my 383 Commando mill in my '67 Barracuda. Toyed with painting the air cleaner gold like a 413 batwing, but felt that was taking liberties. This is my 3rd Sweptline, having previously owned a 1961 (in 1978) when I began contracting, then a 1970 in 1984...all with this unbeatable drive train. I bought them as 2nd trucks for hauling, and to maintain newness of my contemporary truck The spare NP495 remains untouched, as I rebuilt the original transmission as an elective choice, since nothing on this truck has yet to break on its own, though the horn is on its near to final toot. I like the tires on the black Cragar Soft-D wheels.I've owned a bunch of these Sweptline trucks over the years. Are the rockers solid or patched? How about the cab floor? Those are where these nearly always have issues.\n\nAny truck of this year range (post-war through 1968 or so for all manufacturers) generally does not have modern creature comforts, like air, power steering or power brakes. Or a radio, even! Just basic hauling goodness! If you need all that, this probably is not the truck for you. I purposefully did a minimal cleaning of the engine bay, so it would hopefully be apparent no effort was made to clean things up. There is but one pic of the undercarriage, and it too is dead dry everywhere it counts: At the oil pan (new gasket), the rear end is clean (fluid looks great). The engine to trans .(main rear) seal replaced, along with the throw out bearing when the engine was out), the spin on oil filter, valve covers (new gaskets), heads (new gaskets), carb to intake (new gaskets), etc. Garage floor is without spots. Had minor valve cover leaks and fuel seepage at carb's base when I bought the truck in 2008, since rectified. I only replaced the throw out bearing, as it was so easily done and available. The clutch remains very strong. You can pull away from a dead stop in 4th gear.\r\n\r\nRockers and floor pan are solid. Partial skin on passenger door during paint process was the only real body work needed priot to new painting. Original steel is so straight and flawless, is hard to believe it is a 1962. Ditto the bed. Took many photos of the doors, rockers, and body so all can see. I did not want to lift the rubber mat in the cab for photos, as tears could occur around shifter boot and fire wall grommets. i drove the truck without a mat for a good while, and other than the heater core leak, which created minor corrosion, the pan is sound and intact. Did not even paint it before the mat went down. Intended to paint the entire cab, and the engine bay, at some later date (see below). BTW: Blower works great, and can be directed to the defrost by manually closing a flap; have new cables, as their function is stiff, but have yet to get around to their replacement. Was going to paint the cab, fix the heater, and the vent function all at such time. Did replace the choke cable, but never need it for starting. Speedo cable is also new, and the gauge was rebuilt, but accrued no mileage as truck sat when I took the gauge to the shop. Added the oil pressure gauge, but original \"idiot\" light functions as well during starting. Sits as 75 lbs. at freeway speed; 35 at idle. Fuel gauge functions, but is inaccurate; I gas up every 250 miles. Regarding freeway speed: It will run all day at 65, and still has passing power when needed. I pretty much stick to 60 or so, and linger in the slower lanes; am not on the freeway that much. Everyone wants to roll down their windows and ask what year the truck is.\r\n\r\nFinal comment about the wheel wells: I think my camper theory is the correct one, but so many who have Sweptlines like to Rat Rod them, it is possible a previous owner may have planned on installing some monstrous rubber at the rear. I took one look at this truck, and my motivation became to keep it as close to original as I could. The NP (New Process) 435 was a transmission used prolifically by Dodge, Ford and others for their truck stick shifts in the sixties and well beyond. It has a compound low which is not used in normal use, unless you are climbing a tree. It's for puling away under a load, or getting unstuck in mud or snow, overcoming inertia on a hill, etc. It is a heavy duty instrument, thus its use ubiquitously in 3/4 ton trucks by multiple manufacturers for I believe decades. More conventional 4 speeds (Borg Warner, Hurst, others) would not be found in a D200, but could be found in Dodge or Plymouth passenger or muscle cars, and perhaps in less work oriented trucks.....though probably not in 1962. The stick shift in my truck remains fun to drive. Hope this helps.
