I knew I wanted one.\r\n\r\nForget the fact that BMW never made a M7, this is it. As an owner of a \u201807 B7, this seemed like an opportune moment for my first comment on a site I\u2019ve loved for years.\r\n\r\nThe B7 is an iron fist in a velvet glove. Alpina\u2019s thoroughly reworked supercharged N1 variant of BMW\u2019s V8 is unconventionally thrilling. Power comes on late, further into the rev band than you\u2019d expect, not unlike an 80\u2019s turbocharged car. Around town it\u2019s subtle, a rumble from the Akrapovic exhaust the only sign that a monster lurks under the hood. Above 3,000 RPM on boost the power is epic. The speedometer sweeps past the century mark faster than you can believe. If you put your foot down, the road ahead had better be open. When you need to turn the wheel, the suspension wizards at Alpina have allowed the B7 to defy physics. The same for the brakes, which are off the European V12 760. And although the rear end is from the stout diesel 7-Series to handle the extra torque, a parts bin car this is not. Every detail feels truly bespoke, unique from any other 7\r\n\r\nThere\u2019s something special to be said about owning a car you never see, that nobody else has. BMW says change your oil in 15k miles...Well, guess what happens to the 9.2 quarts of oil that cool the supercharger and run this big v8? Oil consumption as a result of the suggested maintenance intervals were the reason why many of the $10k superchargers in these cars saw their early demise.
