Thus the Mini was his next home run but in the mid-sixties virtually nobody took the time or expense to \"rust proof\" cars while in manufacturing thus bare steel was often left in many areas not easily seen. The hood and right fender of this example, but also the engine lid gaps, are more obvious rusted bits. The car needs a full restoration down to and brought back from \"bare metal\" first with epoxy coats (min 2) before skim coat, final re-spray and assembly. There appears to have been some aftermarket rust preventative added in a few spots on the undercarriage but they have all aged out of use and rust can be seen peeking through. By the time one were to spend enough to \"touch up\" these spots there would come the realization that another partial job would not answer the question of rust re-mediation.\n\nAnother concern for this MK1 is that many of them were raced so put through the ringer with great glee. (I recall marveling at their performance in closed for Sundays shopping parking lots in the mid-60's.) Thus the suspension, in general should be carefully reviewed. Another famous engineering marvel still used in new cars, but an often overlooked bit of concern are for the original \"Elastomeric Suspension Bearings\".
