Reclock the arm to your satisfaction. Reattach.\n\nI had a '63 Valiant Signet four-door in the early '80s that had a similar stance. The front torsion bars were cranked down a bit too far. Took it in for an alignment, and they set the front end up where it should be. After the adjustment and realignment, the car drove great, and looked right, too.\n\nThe color was a one-year-only color on Dodge products to commemorate the marque's 50th anniversary, and available on all Dodge car lines. You'll notice the 270 model designation - Dart was available in Dart, 170, 270, and GT models. You think the 270 is \"basic\"? Nope! Look at a plain Dart four-door sometime, with rubber floor coverings, plain vinyl seats, and wheels without wheelcovers or caps. No radio, one visor, and maybe a heater, depending on where the car was sold new. No horn ring, just a button on the steering wheel hub! \n\nI'm really digging this Dart, as I had many in the '80s, from '63 through '76. None let me down. This is most reminiscent of my '63 Valiant, though. I love the simplicity of these cars; the manual steering and brakes, the quick winding windows, etc. The build quality is really quite good for being a basic car, and even after 56 years of use all body panels are still in alignment other than hood, which was removed for an engine swap for a '74 slant six. I learned to drive in a 1965 Ford Custom 500 so driving it brought back so many memories of driving back then! I made my way down a steep bramble covered embankment, across the main railway line, and to the Cessna dealership where I bought a gallon of 115 octane avgas. The guy there thought I would wreck the engine until I persuaded him that cars of that age were designed to run on leaded gasoline. He kindly drove me back to the Dart.\n\nAnother night my fan belt broke with no spare handy. As they say, necessity is the mother of invention. I got to the nearest gas station/convenience store and bought a pair of panty hose. With that I rigged an emergency fan belt and it got me the 25 miles home without any charging or cooling issues.\n\nThe all-drum brakes were a bit scary on a steep hill when they would fade. I loved the NJ Transit lot as it was full of the most interesting old sixties beaters. My dad's station car was nearly exactly this, but a lowly 170 2-door with 3 on the tree. Same Steelcase office-desk non-color, poverty caps and no seatbelts at all. It was ancient even in 1978 and I clearly remember the smell of fried oil and mildew, body scarred from Bondo badly smoothed with 80 grit sanding discs, DODGE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY on the horn button, SOLID STATE TRANSISTOR on the radio, the steering wheel cracked in exactly the same places as this one, the doors that open from the inside even when locked, my brother nearly spilling out. My very first driving experience, age 12 or so, was in that Dart in that NJ Transit parking lot on a deserted Saturday. When it finally wouldn't stop overheating we turned it in to our mechanic, who passed it along to some local lady with a lot of kids. I saw it out and about once more, groaning under the load on half-flat tires. Very thankful that I still have my dad! My parents ordered a '66 Dodge Dart station wagon with the 170 6 cyl. 3 speed with no options, rubber floor mat etc. and proceeded to pull a 14' enclosed camping trailer on the weekends. My dad burned the clutch out twice, once at a gas station in the middle of Atlanta on the way to Florida for a two week vacation. When the car was about 7 years old they gave it to a 16 year old son (me) I can't remember what the mileage was at the time but by about 125k the compression so low that after it got to operating temps and you shut the motor off it would take some cranking to get it started again. My parents had a local mechanic shop install a 225 and I was on the road again.
