These were just coming in and the choice was between a base 1986 B2000 or a 1984.5 B2000 Sport LE that was totally pimped out. I went with the previous gen and had a ball in that truck. First thing I did was tint the windows and install a new stereo system complete with 7 band EQ with dancing LED's. \r\nI had a mowing business in high school and through college. It was very reliable after 100K miles of clutch drops, airborne jumps over rail road tracks, high speed blasts through deep water, red lined daily. I washed it weekly and kept on top of maintenance myself. It still looked new years later. I finally blew the head gasket and had to rebuild the transmission after all that abuse. Drove it for a few more years until I got married and had our first son on the way. TONS of great memories and adventures in that little Mazda truck. It was and remains my favorite truck. I replaced the bench seat with Rx7 buckets and a generic Pep-Boys center console. The stock electronically controlled carb was a nightmare to tune when if malfunctioned. (this is easily solved by switching to a Weber). It is under-powered but reliable. The biggest issue (not a problem in this example) were rust issues (as mine rusted from the inside of the bed outwards in the Northeast) . Another common problem were head gaskets. Some people solved that by installing the radiator from an automatic version into the manual version (2 core for better heat dispersion) . The clutch was perfect for a first time driver. \r\n\r\nWhile I do not understand why someone bought this and promptly stored it, I am glad to see a solid example exist. I've seen it many times before. I have an entire folder on my hard drive full of literature and photos of different B2000, B2200, B2600, and B2600i trucks that I have collected over the years, and this one still takes the cake. It's just brand-new; that's all there is to it.\n\nHere's the history I know about the truck: after being bought by the original owner and sitting in storage for approximately 20 years, it was bought by a Mazda truck collector in Missouri (here it is during that point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS9s7GE7L04 ). He owned it for a few years and was rightfully paranoid of driving it, so he sold it to a museum in Las Vegas. It appears that the museum then either sold it at Barrett-Jackson themselves or sold before it to someone who did. Whatever the case, I'm confident that the $21,000 price tag definitely breaks the record of any of its previous sales.\n\nThat being said, I cannot stress enough how amazingly new this truck is. For those who don't know, the B-Series trucks came in three different trim levels from 1986\u201389: Base, SE-5, and LX. The base trucks were just that: basic entry-level trucks with zero options or features. The LX, despite its rather understated exterior (the most notable additions were its chrome trim and wheels), was the top-of-the-line model with all the interior amenities you could get in a truck at the time.\n\nBut the SE-5 was the coolest-looking of the bunch: loud and sporty stripes (the variant seen here was a single-year-only option, only available for the '86 B2000 SE-5), tow mirrors, a step bumper, and my favorite feature, a set of white-on-black painted six-spoke wheels wrapped in white-letter Bridgestone SF Radial tires (long since discontinued). Side-note: if I'm not wrong, the original set of unmounted tires were actually included with the truck in previous sales. I'm not sure if they have still survived with it.\n\nTo those who think, \"it's just a truck\", and therefore should \"be used just like a truck\", you're missing the point. The reason that 95% of these Mazda trucks have ended up in junkyards is exactly that: a lifetime of neglect, abuse, and general lack of care. To find one that hasn't been owned by a string of gardeners, contractors, or otherwise careless owners is very rare these days.\n\nAs someone who is trying to restore his own B2200 back to factory condition, I can attest that bringing a weathered example back to the level of this one is much harder than it looks, since so many of the parts are no longer available (from Mazda, wholesale retailers, eBay, or anywhere else). Finding these parts in NOS condition is unfortunately downright impossible.\n\nThis truck truly is a time capsule, and it should stay that way.
