The Interceptor Mark lll may not appeal to all at first glance but the combination of the 440, torque flight and dana drive train on a much lighter car than a Mopar muscle car is much more exhilarating in this motor car. The hand-built body (all panel seams are lead filled, not body putty filled)) and certain hand stitched interior trim areas are a real bonus for that era of motor cars. While other manufacturers were stuck with smogged down mid and full size boats, Jensen didn't lower the displacement to get better fuel economy, lower weight or cut cost. Domestic drive train dependability is a big plus too. Hopefully this car gets into the right hands for it future.... Not sure what happened to the rear leather trim but no leaks back there. Just ripped somehow and like that since I got it. Chrome is good but rear fender needs to be redone. Is pitted. The fans in the engine aren\u2019t original but transformed the daily running of the car and it now never overheats which used to be an issue especially in the summer. The hole in the floor of the passenger floor you can see in one of the pictures of the underside of the car above the exhaust pipe. It\u2019s small but definitely needs fixing. The trim on the exterior was there when I got it. I actually like it but Jensen purists aren\u2019t fans. It\u2019s a jaguar trim apparently. The ac is weak and I wish I had found old Freon. I\u2019m not sure what the solution is and I looked into after market ac\u2019s. Pretty paint jobs on the internet with rust holes underneath- that's uninspiring. There are no real #'s matching Jensens. Jensen preferred the orange dual snorkel but there were black ones too. Parts are drying up, especially body. People forget these are British CUSTOM COACH WORK, if a part or crevice, crook, cranny or nook CANNOT POSSIBLY RUST- it will rust on a British car. Jensen got engines in lots from Chrysler. Chrysler had extra 375hp 440's leftover that they did not need to catch hell from the EPA on. As they weren't used in warranty for muscle cars they sat until the dealer sent them to Hamtramck or Kokomo(if the trans was also installed) and Chrysler was left with what to do with them. The 383 of course was coming to an end, the 400 was set aside and as Chrysler transitioned to the 290hp and lower 440- Jensen needed engines. I have one that I have documented and I am the 2nd owner, it is a MK III Interceptor and it has a 1970 440 in it. I've owned it for 10 years and the PO who bought it new in Los Angeles documented it extensively. I have a 1973 Mk III that is bronze metallic- believe Jensen called it fawn metallic. I have had it 20+ years and it has an SAE rated 290hp engine. People should bear in mind, tooling for original full quarters was altered to make the S4 Interceptor. There is no rear glass available, certainly no frames for the glass. Martin Robley will tell you if you order something not in stock: it could be 10 years before you get it. The family took over M-R and they have not maintained the remaining dies, molds, etc. The sheet metal supply is what you can find used in the US because $1 USD is equal to 0.80 pounds sterling so sourcing from the UK is possible but essentially add 20% to purchase cost to make up for arbitrage. A good rule of thumb is that before you try to make a car's exterior stunning you start from the bottom up and rebuild the brakes and suspension, service everything neccessary- rust repair, then remove the interior and do it while the exterior body is taken car of. That's if you are doing a restoration and not a 20 footer for sale. Also, the bolt pattern is 5x5\". The brakes are Lucas-Girling and you have to pay about $150 per caliper to rebuild yours if you do it yourself. A leaky steering system tends to mean that you need to remove the rack which means drop front suspension- the rack is rebuildable by only a few specialists in Jaguar, Aston Martin, and Lotus. There are two steel lines on the rack and they get punctured, rust through, or kinked especially if the car is pulled up on a trailer. Rebuilding that rack is expensive and the reinstall more so, you have to fab those lines. To repair floor rust you have to remove as much of the interior as possible and set it aside in a safe place. The best idea is to unplug the wiring sections to avoid heat damage or wires getting snagged, then remove the 727 and torque converter. Strip the underside- simple green will work and not cause your shop to become an EPA Superfund Site. If there are holes in the floor visible- there are holes invisible. It seems like a good idea based on the way automotive media- like Haggerty and Hemmings- present it. Haggerty and Hemmings and BAT and BF all have a vested interest in getting people to continue buying the cars so they paint a pretty picture on paper. That's the idea on paper, what's it really like ? Take your bank account and give it a few beers for Budweiser courage, put your bank account up to insulting Mike Tyson to his face- even after that, your bank account is still going to look better than if it was financing repairing a Jensen project vehicle. The Jensen project vehicle will take off both ears whole. I am a restorer- I don't do street rods, I don't butcher the beauty Vignale, West Bromwich, Solihull, and the amazing firms there-in produced. Apply common sense- are you really going to try to leave in the interior to fix the rust in the undercarriage with the hope no sparks cause disaster ? Ok, if you are going to bond in a patch panel, let me ask about how you cut out the rust with no heat or sparks ? I wish the seller the very best of luck and I hope it finds a home that does it justice and doesn't continue the cycle of pretty up top and out of the ditches, I hope it is made sound mechanically and structurally and then everything reinstalled. Owned it for 20-odd years. Got the electrics, fans, and suspension sorted first. Then had the top and lining done, and a new bonnet installed which was sourced from Martin Robey in the UK. This work was done down in the US, in Washington, when K&D Jensen was in different hands, and did servicing work, too; they repaired and restored cars, and did lovely work.\r\n\r\nLast year, it was time for a new interior. Couldn\u2019t find someone local to do the work, so had the seven new Connolly hides shipped back to the UK and on to Jensen Service, and shipped the whole interior of the car soon after to Jensen Service, who did a stunning job. Doing the job here would have cost a minimum of $30K CDN, plus the $8K for the hides. Shipping the interior to the UK, even with $5K, shipping cost well less than half \u2014 and was done superbly by a marque specialist.\r\n\r\nI know lots of folks who love and own old cars, Mercs, Ferraris, Astons, you name it. Jensens are in the same league as any car made 50-odd years ago, domestic or foreign \u2014 made to different standards then for many things, including rust protection and the like. Back then, all cars in anything but bone-dry climates seemed to rust out in a couple of winters. McNessor in Hemmings, using his Dad's cars from the 70s and 80s as examples, makes this point regularly, and hilariously.\r\n\r\nAnd if resources are an issue, there are old cars by the hundreds \u2014 British or otherwise \u2014 to help match your budget. I didn\u2019t know anything, really, about cars when I bought my Interceptor. Knowing that K&D was a ferry-ride away, then across the border into the US gave me some peace of mind. Plus, there were more folks around then locally who still knew how to work on older cars \u2014 be they foreign or domestic. Harder these days in these parts just to find someone who can work on a 440. Would I have bought my Interceptor if K&D hadn\u2019t been there? Yeah, I really wanted that Convertible, but their presence and proximity certainly was a factor.\r\n\r\nSome folks have the funds to \u2018get one done\u2019 in one go. That\u2019s not how I spend my money; I do a bit each year and after 20 years, my car is dependable, and great to look at, and pure fun to own and tinker with. Yep, I\u2019ve learned to effect some repairs on my own like, say, when a switch fails, or the fuel flap sticks, or once when the top didn\u2019t go down. I\u2019m an idiot, often, yet by using all the resources available, I figured it all out and got it all sorted. Man, that\u2019s satisfying, and it\u2019s why I like the hobby. And why I love my Interceptor.\r\n\r\nSo, are you on your own with a Jensen Interceptor? Only if you want to be. Only if you want to cast a narrow net.\r\n\r\nThe Internet saved these cars, and continues to play a critical role in bringing them back \u2014 including cars that were deemed irredeemable only a few short years ago. Join the Jensen Owners Club. Use their online Forum where owners and restorers share tremendous time and knowledge to keep your car on the road, and to help you make it better, and to have more fun. Between that Forum, and the stunning array of new and used parts available, or rebuilder to give old parts new life, there\u2019s no reason gas flaps won\u2019t open, aerials won\u2019t go up and down, lights won't go on, and gauges won\u2019t read. Join the JOC, get the wiring diagram for your year, buy the now readily available parts and servicing manuals. Buy some of Calver\u2019s books to learn more about the marque, servicing routines, and maybe even a bit about your specific car.\r\n\r\nIn the US, there\u2019s K&D Jensen now in Maryland, and in the wonderfully capable hands of George Phelps who supplies new and some used parts, knowhow, and rebuilt steering racks, too! And there\u2019s Delta Motorsports in Arizona. Great folks, there. And in the UK? A treasure trove. Stunning support through Robey\u2019s, Jensen Service, Dave Pearce\u2019s Oily Rag Classics, Appleyard Parts, River Bourne Classics, and Longstone Tyres for my Pirellis. And likely others who I\u2019ve not yet relied on, but who I would in a heartbeat for parts, advice, and \u2014 per my interior experience \u2014 stunning service. And again, don\u2019t forget that brilliant JOC Forum: Treat those drivers, those owners, and those specialists with respect and kindness, and you\u2019ll have any problem solved. Solved right, solved fast. That JOC Forum keeps our cars where they should be: on the road. The caveat is whether your budget runs to doing it immediately, or working through it over time. Last week, we saw a slightly modified 1975 Interceptor Saloon sell here for $50,000. Is this the same car? No, it\u2019s not. Lots of Interceptors out there, and lots of different cars. And I'd say potentially more, and more in better shape, with each passing year. But the new owner of that $50K Interceptor and the buyer of this Interceptor will, I wager, have about the same sense of delight when the key turns, that engine starts, and they head down the road. It hit lower Florida hard Snowbirds began flooding Western NC and North GA as they didn't want to take the risk of another hurricane. \r\nI heard of a collector who had 3 Interceptors that were pulled hurricane damaged out on the road for FL DOT and FEMA to bring in a compactor and crush and collect debris. It's not intentional. \r\nTwo men and their wives were taking pictures of my beater Jensen with their son(also the other couple's nephew). I waited and then asked if they were done. The mom was overly apologetic. I told them that it was a rotted down Florida car I was gradually getting it where I wanted.\r\nA guy asked me what the quarter panel vents were supposed to house. I showed him the fiberglass emblem holder and the Jensen emblem(I had them stashed in the console rear stash box. I had a red hood emblem that goes on the filler panel that just goes on the filler panel between the fenders and their son was taken with the one on the car. I told them I had an extra- it was cracked but I put it on a small piece of wood mounted inside an antique cigar box and then sealed it in poly resin to where it was rock hard. The little boy kept asking his dad to buy the extra red emblem I'd repaired. I asked permission if was ok to give it to the kid for free, but if it was not, as I am a stranger I would not be offended. The mom and dad wanted to give me money for it- way more than it was worth. I gave it away. This little 7-8 year old kid is over joyed to get it. I had it built into an OLD cigar box and was going to most likely give it away. After that he started to tell me: \"Daddy and I saw that on the way to Disney World.\" Little guy was pretty sharp. So I asked his dad and brother where they saw the Jensen emblem at. The dad got my Atlas and he said \"About here. They were hurricane cars and all of them had FEMA and Florida's hurricane squad tape all around them.\" They had stopped at a junkyard looking for Fox body Ford parts. I called Florida's FEMA and asked if there was a yard that might have gotten them near Orlando. That afternoon I came in from the farm crest fallen. I had 80 possible salvage yards, but that night I had a call from FL and it was a salvage operator and he had one Jensen. and I got a call back from a nice man and he said: \"Hey let me text you some pictures\". I saw a car with a ruined front end. But from the rear ? Looked great. I got in the pickup and did a trip to Florida. I salvaged as much roof as possible, got a compete rear clip rust free(Texas rust free), got an extra Dana, extra 4 calipers made by Lucas-Girling, and 2 Dunlop calipers inside. The owner let me pick anything else for free- yes, I got the most expensive piece of glass in existence(it's not- but it feels like it). \r\n\r\nDelta has had parts in stock and not in stock and it's gotten to more not in stock. \r\n\r\nLeon who owns Nightwing will only take cash, money order or check mailed in and then he ships. He was incommunicado as of late and then back in his shop now. I hope he is well. \r\n\r\nI remember K&D being Kerry and Doug and I was SHOCKED the operation was sold and George bought them. George has helped me out so much. \r\n\r\nI do use Jensen Service. \r\n\r\nI paid Robley the entire amount for a re-pop louvered hood. \r\n\r\nHonestly, I wish anyone could own one. Because they're such an amazing creation- even the S4 with Saab brakes, 360 and sb 727. \r\n\r\nLook attrition versus sales as well as the people who have participated in the Registry. The odds are against the cars, especially aftermarket wise. It's been years since Robley did anything but crude exterior panels. They did have a decent cycle of calipers brought in. There have been brake upgrades and 17\" wheels offered in the Jag style but I like them as they are. \r\n\r\nI hope when I am pushing up daisies that the little boy I gave the emblem to finds one as a driver or restoration. \r\n\r\nAt the same time down in Montgomery there is an Onyx black Mark II Interceptor that the owner bought for $10k and he has $45k parts and labor in it as he won't try to learn mechanics and hires out. When he told his wife he might be able to sell it whole as is for $15k she literally went to a divorce lawyer. \r\n\r\nI want to see all the remaining cars saved. I hope they are restored, but it's someone's property and an LS engine with Jag IRS and IFS is not my thing but it is someone's thing. \r\n\r\nLet's put it this way: I'd damn sure buy this car rather than the last Jensen on here. It was a pig in a poke that no sale'd $45k at a dealer, then no sale'd Mecum at $16k, then someone in Canada ended up with it and tried to sell it on here. Eventually BaT ended that auction earlier. \r\n\r\nThis seller is not trying to hide anything, this is a good car to build. And it has Bill's Lear 8 track- so that's pretty wizard. To quote the great philosopher Wooderson: \"Alright, alright, alright.\"\r\n\r\nI learned an idiom: \"Gatekeeping\". I am not a gate keeper. I am the dude who owns 4 Jensens and several Lotus's. I wish everyone could afford the hobby who wants to learn and contribute. I try to aim for that. Not everyone has an Interceptor, but also from the Tao of Wooderson \"Well, it'd be a lot cooler if you did.\"\r\n\r\nI have an A110 engine by Gordini going into a Europa in a couple days. After that my beater Jensen is next. And thanks to a chance encounter- I have a complete rear clip to repair the body. Alright alright alright.\r\n\r\nThis is a great car. \r\n\r\nI know I come off like an a-hole but the reality is I'm not so bad, an acquired taste to be sure, and I don't want to see someone's dream falter and die.\r\n\r\nSo I repeat: Nothing is being concealed here. It's a good car. If I had it, I can think of some stupid things I'd like to do with it- like a Georgia bootleg. If you want one, the recession is a good time to buy a Jensen. I always liked old Rovers, old pre-Tata Lotus, Interceptors, an 62-74 Mopars. Desperately wanted a 1970 GTO Judge- I finally have one. I'm not a trust fund baby or scion of wealth. \r\n\r\nBe informed. But please don't let what I've said discourage you if you have the money and the skills. To correct the rust that has been additionally uncovered the following needs to be done:\r\n1. Pull seats and console unit\r\n2. Pull wiring harness pieces from under dash and also inside the doors\r\n3. Pull carpet\r\n4. Pull sound deadner\r\n5. That's not just rust, it's rot. It's rot in areas that lead one to believe that the tube chassis that the Jensen Interceptor(and CV8 and FF) are built on- is rotted.\r\n6. If it has that kind of rot that calls into question what needs to be done in so far as as the brakes and brake lines\r\n7. One has to ask one self- how in the hell was this car painted and upholstered with all that underlying rot ?\r\n8. In addition to the above what has to be done ? Strip to shell(glass out, engine and trans and dash and front suspension, rear suspension out) - then it can be dipped in evaporust which will get 85% of the rust neutralized, or an acid dip, caustic soda dip and galvanized.\r\nJust this stage is $10,000-$15000 of work- if you strip it and inventory and document the process you can knock off $4000 but the acid, caustic soda, and getting it galvanized will be $8000 plus. If you find some place that does hydrolysis that's expensive and you have to inspect their work or else you're dumping money. \r\n9. If you can use a flanger, and english wheel and sheet metal brake it takes about $5000-7500 to do the floors because you have to match it to what it was previously\r\n10. When it was bid to $7500 it was an ok car at that price but at $12,000- that's getting nuts. To actually restore the car is triple that cost- so you are going to have $50k-$60k where you could get one done and cheaper for far less. A hood will cost you $2500-$3000 USD, the rear glass is in a frame that is extremely corrosion prone(the cost of the glass was not the only reason that Jensen got rid of the lid for S4)- that rear lid's frame together with the glass is $2000-$5000.\r\nThe rot in the floors is going to be in the rockers and on the frame- it's there.\r\nYou're going to need to buy used rockers and they are some of the first pieces to go. If there is rot in the tube chassis or rust at major stress bearing portions of the frame you will have to fabricate and install supports to keep the frame aligned and square until you resolve the rust and then you will do more bracing to repair the frame. If you don't that's how you get caddywampus Interceptors that can be on a perfectly flat service and you see one corner up and side down- or combination thereof. That's how you get the rear springs flattened out and there are not many places that will heat them and then put them into a jig that adds a load and curvature to them. Buying a used set cut out may be just as bad. \r\nYou're getting an engine and trans you know nothing about. The biggest upside is the paint and you can't save the pretty paint and remediate the damage. \r\n@ unclecharlie51 : I have a white Texas car that was sold new in Texas, I have a Black car from Texas/Louisiana Border that is a III SP. I have a british racing red MK II 383 from Lovelock NV- it was in a collection of 20 Interceptors that I tried to buy as a lot for over two decades and in the in the only 6 were saved- a guy in lower part of Chi-town bought 5 and made 4 and sold them. I was able to buy the British Racing Red One. The other 14 may have gone to Delta or Leon. The one I've owned the longest I got from a professor from Florida and it needed a bonnet(still waiting 10+ years from Martin Robley)- it is metallic fawn. I have one I consider a \"beater\"- it was driveable parts car and I did not consider it \"a car\" - I considered it parts on wheels. It is a M-B Red and came from Florida. Now I have a perfect rear clip, things have changed. \r\n\r\nThere was a guy in Spruce Pine NC who had a wrecked blue one that ended up on the west coast with the title wiped clean. He had an SP. I bought some manuals from him.\r\n\r\nBest to whoever buys this but all that glitters is not gold. I think some shop took advantage of the seller. \r\n\r\nI wish the best to the buyer but this is not restoring an E-body 'Cuda or a 70 Charger or 70 Superbee or even a 1972 GTO.
