There is surface oxidation evident on the exhaust pipes, inside the engine bay where the original paint has worn away, and on that area at the base of the rear window, which the attached image magnifies. The respray was masked right at the rubber and his chipped away a little in that area and exposed some metal and gotten a few mil under the paint. I've poked all around the area and there doesn't seem to be anything deeper. There is also a bulge on the c pillar that appears to be paint or buildup (pictured). 2) Re: cracks. I bought the car through a mechanic who had a paint gauge. I also went over possible hidden damage areas with a magnet. That said, there would certainly be skim coat and some old pant under the respray, which can definitely crack over time. 3) There aren't any dents on the hood. There's a scrape next to the ornament that's pictured. And there's a dent on the front right fender that is so shallow that I can only find it in certain light. But the hood alignment isn't perfect either: Gaps are consistent but the front right sits about 6mil proud, which is the other attached image. I measured the driver's door misalignment while I was out there: gaps are good but the top is 3mil proud and the bottom of the door is 5mil proud (measured where the front door meets the back door). The pull to the right is very gentle but it has been enough to unevenly wear the front right tire.\r\n- There are some pass-throughs in the firewall that don't have grommets, so hot air from the engine bay makes its way into the cabin. \r\n- Power steering leak. I suspect it is the pump itself. It wheezes and hisses a little if turning the wheels at a stop.\r\n- Take the doors apart and service the window motors/regulators\r\n- Reattach the rear passenger interior door handle\r\n- A/C - it was cold when I bought it but once Summer came, the heat was untenable. Find the leak and refill, or replace with a modern system.\r\n- If the car sits for a few days, all the fuel drains back to the tanks and it can take 5-10 seconds of cranking to get it back to the carb. Solve: Electric fuel pump? One way valve?\r\n- The steering wheel telescoping system is complex and a bit noisy. You can buy rebuilt racks and it's not that big of a deal. \r\nThe windows being slow is caused by poor contacts in the switches, not the motors themselves. This is also a problem that you'll find in most all of these cars. It has to do with the fact that the electricity flows through all switches so it can be overridden by the driver switch. Also, the tachometer with the 5k RPM redline is typically found on the XJ6 versus the 6,500 RPM redline on the V-12 cars. Pic 38 is a little fuzzy but pic 47 from the 2017 sale shows the small print below the \"RPM x 1000\" lettering on the tach says \"6 Cyl\". No judgment here, but if the buyer is expecting the upgraded XJ-12 suspension bits, they may want to ask a few questions. If you add rotors to the job list as well, then dropping the IRS as a unit made it much easier. And during my Jaguar mechanic days, the rear brake pads were probably the most neglected service item on these wonderful cars. In 1982 I used a John's Cars of Dallas Broken Kitty\r\nengine swap kit on a 1976 XJ-12L that dropped a valve at highway speed. I installed a 305 Chevy motor along with the Turbo 350 that came out of the same Monte Carlo. The John's kit had everything needed to do the swap. The front end came up about 2 inches due to the lighter small block. But everything plugged in, the radiator hoses matched to the original radiator, in short the Chevy swap extended the life of the car for another 18 years. The owner never had a problem with the components from the John's Cars kit. I like this car quite a bit. Think of it like this, you have a Jaguar ownership experience with Chevy a engine and transmission maintenance cost. Best of both worlds. Plus you can use regular unleaded fuel.
