Instantly this Tahitian Green hatchback caught there eye. A veteran salesman saw them looking at it, and went to greet them, but what they didn\u2019t know was he had been eyeing that same car and was planning to buy it the next week. After driving it they feel in love and bought it right away. Even though the salesman was disappointed, he figured another one would hit the lot in the near future, however as it was nearing the end of 1991, Honda had already switched into the 5th gen chassis and the 4th gen was no longer being made. However as luck would have it, a few months later our newlyweds would drive back on the lot with the news they were expecting. So the hatchback was just not going to be big enough anymore and they were going to need to upgrade to a sedan. The salesman saw an opportunity to get the hatchback he had been wanting, so they struck a deal and in February of 1992, with only 5,801 miles it got its second owner. Made by Recaro they hug you just as much as any modern race seat. The biggest issue for the seats is the bolsters were so big that every time you got in or out of the car it would cause wear on them until the fabric ripped and the foam started to break down. Since 1992 the front seats have had on super thick sheepskin seat covers and as they would wear out, a new set was always put right back on. So the front seats in this car could possibly be the nicest set in existence. There is no bolster wear, or foam breakdown at all!\r\nThe drivers floor mat has some heel wear, but the carpet underneath the mats is flawless. All the dash lights work, the heat and A/C both work. The clock works correctly. There is a small crack on the dash, in the tray area, but it has been covered with a rubber Tegwa Imports dash mat. The cargo cover is still intact and not split. It has the rear speaker pods, but adding the Infinity rear speakers caused a crack in the driver side one (see photos.) The passenger door panel has a few soft spots on the side where the seat belt buckle had caught it when the door was closed. The maintenance records go back to 1999. Before that the car was just worked on at Honda where the salesman worked. In July, 2018 with 116,764 miles, the car got a new clutch, flywheel, rear main seal, timing belt, and water pump. In August, 2019 with 117,539 the car got a new oil pan gasket. As you can see it has only been averaging 1,000 miles a year. After I got the car in 2021 with around 119,600 I did new tires, new Bosal exhaust, and an oil change. The reason for the exhaust change was at some point in its life the original muffler had started to fall apart internally (really common on these) and an exhaust shop talked the last owner into a whole new exhaust. But it was just a universal muffler and welded together piping. So I got the Bosal which is the Si oem replacement with the dual tips. I added the chrome Bosal tips as well. The hub caps are original and in amazing condition, but the paint had started to fade. So I soda blasted them, sanded them, and re-painted them. \r\nThe car runs amazing, no knocks, ticks, noises or issues. The transmission has no grinds and shifts super smooth. Colorado does get winters but they don\u2019t use salt on the road here, they use gravel. So we don\u2019t have the rust issues, but we get paint chips. So as you can see in the photos ( I just added some more) the hood, front bumper, bumper filler (between the bumper and hood) and mirrors have some chips. There is 3 small dings on the roof that PDR could probably remove. There are a few paint chips and scuffs along the body. \r\nThe drivers rear quarter panel has that small rust spot, but its only on the surface and is not a hole through the body. The passenger side has no rust. \r\nEven though its not on the Carfax in the early 2000\u2019s something feel over in the garage and dented the passenger fender. The last owner had a body shop fix the fender and they re-painted it as well as blended in the hood and front bumper. The paint work wasn\u2019t the greatest and when I got the car the fender clear coat was flaking off. Then a few years ago in a parking lot a car backing into the spot in front of the Civic went a little to far back and bumped the front bumper, causing a dent on the right side by the grill. She never did learn, so I wound up just driving it and having fun without really knowing what I had. \r\n\r\nIt was a rusty crap-pile but mechanically great with a nice interior, which describes most midwestern 90s Hondas currently. Bought it with 110k on the clock and drove it to about 160k before the oil-burning got out of hand. A block and head from a good D16Y7 (from a 98 Civic) had all the D16A6 equipment swapped onto it and I did another 50k miles no problem (dropped right in with a mix-n-match of stock motor mounts). Enjoyed it with some cheap coilovers and an eBay exhaust for the gokart it was.\r\n\r\nIts next life phase started in about 2015; got a clean southern chassis and cut the lower half off, removing the cancer on mine and replacing it with OEM metal (my baby was gone 8 months). A D16Z6 (a VTEC motor from a 94 Civic) was built pretty thoroughly and is making 150whp on race gas. S2K front brakes, CRX disc rears. Skunk2 Pro-C coilovers, RPF1 wheels with 205 wide Bridgestone RE-71Rs. If you think the stock car is analog, try an autocross \"cheater\" tire in a 205 width. The amount of feedback is nearly lewd, its so explicit. I haven't taken it back to Gingerman since its been built, it's been too long anyway.\r\n\r\nMy interior is still entirely stock, except for a shift knob and a Euro-market cargo bin between the shifter and ash tray, because these interiors are textbook ergo and do a great job riding the 80s/90s line. I'm interested to see the crack in the dash tray, because I had the same thing happen. Also, I want to see the flaw to assuage my jealousy of that drivers seat bolster; mine's wide open with tape over the foam lol\r\n\r\nThe way these drive is amazing. It feels like you can touch all four corners of the car from the drivers seat. You feel the balance of the whole car, somehow, and you're sitting right in the middle of it. The controls are light, everything is light, even the engine that's doing 7000 rpm (and loving it) feels like its made from angry marshmallow and the pride of Honda workers. I didn't swap in a heavier B-series engine because its lightness is so fundamental. I don't know why I'm going on about why I love these so much, it's really unlikely to wind up being a first Honda purchase for someone. I sold it while living in Boca Raton, Fl and bought a 92\u2019 Mustang LX 5.0 convertible. That car was awful, it leaked like crazy.
