I do not have very much history on the car from the seller other then he owned it for a few years and enjoyed driving it around and entering it in local car shows which apparently judged very well in the appearance category. I checked the numbers on the engine and it appears the date falls in line with the year of the car. The engine number CLB Would indicate it is a 1972 402 CU engine. The radiator support label also coincides with that information. Although it looks to be correct, I can not confirm it is the original engine. It does have an aftermarket Edelbrock Intake manifold and not the original carburetor which I believe would have been a Quadrajet. I will pull the air cleaner and submit a picture of the carb later. The replacement engine has a CLB suffix indicating a it\u2019s from a 1972 Chevelle or El Camino with a 402 CID, 250HP and a TH400 transmission.\r\nNormally the fact that this Sprint was born with a small block wouldn\u2019t disqualify it from being an SS because in 1972 you could get the RPO Z25 option (the SS option) with a 350, or 402 engine, but no further documentation is needed on this one because a wood grain dash was not available on any Sprint SS and could only be sourced from a Monte Carlo. I can check to see if its a posi and post that. It is definitely a 12 bolt. I see the missing collector bolt on the top. There are no exhaust leaks that I hear. I did check the A/C. The compressor runs and is quiet. After about 10 minutes the line started getting cold but not ice cold as it would normally. So it at least has some Freon in the system and would assume it needs to be charged. I did note the fan worked on lower speeds but not on High. The transmission pan had a little fluid around it so I snugged up the pan bolts and there were a couple excessively loose. This was a little oil around the oil filter which looked recently replaced. After a whip down haven't really seen any spots on the floor. I left the underside alone. No paint or undercoat spray. I would pressure wash the underside and then detail it. I did replace the steering box. The original was really sloppy with an extra inch of unacceptable play. I also replaced the center link.
