Some additional notes on the work that I've undertaken during my ownership to follow.\r\n\r\nI bought the car in 2019. It came from a village in Corr\u00e8ze - St Priest de Gimel - not too far from my in-laws. It was supplied to Citroen of Clermont-Ferrand in December 1969 and subsequently registered to Jean-Patrick & Henriette Richard in January 1970. The photo below, taken in February 2019, shows the original owner\u2019s son in front of the house where the car had been stored since the early nineties. It was completely original with its factory paint - Blanc Cygne with a faded roof in Gris Nacr\u00e9. According to the son, the car had always been garaged, and his fastidious father would not allow him or his mother anywhere near it.\r\n\r\nI was told that it had been mechanically overhauled (no invoices) in preparation for a family event in 2018; otherwise it had sat in the basement of the family home for 27 years. The French mandatory biennial inspection (contr\u00f4le technique) reports for 2017 and 2019 are on file. \r\n\r\nI\u2019ve seen many and owned several of these cars over the years, but nothing quite as good as this. After servicing the car, replacing the tyres, fuel pump, fuel lines and injectors, the car was driven to the UK. A few photos below of the car shortly after arrival.\r\n\r\nWhile I'm not really fond of window stickers, the DS 21 decal on the rear screen was affixed by the supplying dealer and marks the first prize safety award (Prix de la S\u00e9curit\u00e9) presented to Citroen by the French Motoring Press Association in 1969.\r\n\r\nThanks for the comments and messages so far. The FM Continental Edison radio has been serviced and I have retained the original front speaker with fader control. The parcel shelf speaker has been upgraded and remains in its original housing. \r\n\r\nThe interior has been replaced by Enzo Forgione, a DS and SM specialist in Bolzano. Enzo, renowned for producing exceptional DS and SM leather interiors, supplies discerning collectors and the PSA Group with interiors for their heritage collection in Citro\u00ebn/DS Automobiles showrooms in Paris - (https://www.nuancierds.fr/DT%20refab%20cuir.htm). Leather is matched in texture and colour to what Citroen produced in the late sixties and early seventies. Stitching measurements, thread colour, and internal materials remain true to the original specification. Rear bumper straightened and re-assembled with new fittings; refitted with new mountings and new rear wing rubber buffers. The original upper and lower stainless steel pallas door trim retained and polished. Original window brushes and rubbers retained. The central \u2018baguette\u2019 trim replaced. \r\n\r\nEngine compartment detailed - air filter, headlamp bar and spare wheel powder coated in RAL 4077. Replaced spare wheel housing and repainted jack set. \r\nWheels shot blast and powder coated in Gris Rose - RAL 4077. Pallas wheel trim professionally polished. \r\n\r\nFitted new smaller type door mirrors by CIPA to both doors. Repaired door locks. \r\nBoot hinges removed, resealed and refitted with stronger tension springs. \r\nNew carpet set from Blondeau. Original foam under mats retained. Headlining and C pillar fabric replaced.\u2028\r\n\r\nMechanical & Electrical -\t\r\n\r\nFuel pump and filter replaced. Injectors replaced (the original injectors come with the car). Fuel piping from the fuel tank to the engine bay replaced. Checked engine based injection wiring and connectors, some of which had split rubber boots and corroded connectors, and replaced where necessary. \u2028\t\r\nValve clearances correctly adjusted, new rocker cover and spark plug tube seals fitted. New plugs - NGK BP6HS. \r\n\r\n123 distributor fitted. New alternator fitted. \u2028\r\n\r\nLeaking radiator removed, radiator re-cored, pressure-tested and re-fitted.\r\nAll drive belts replaced (fan, alternator, hydraulic pump, centrifugal regulator) and correct tensions set. \u2028\r\n\r\nEngine oil and filter changed. Gearbox oil drained and changed. \u2028\r\n\r\nAll axle joints and steering joints cleaned, greased, and some rubber bearing seals that were split were replaced. \u2028\r\n\r\nReplaced frayed battery cabling to starter motor. Replaced starter solenoid with new starter relay (original relay retained). \u2028\r\n\r\nNew O/S engine mount fitted. \u2028\r\n\r\nReplaced both bonnet release cables; the old ones were frayed. \u2028\r\n\r\nReplace all suspension spheres for genuine re-manufactured two-piece cast iron spheres. I only use remanufactured hydraulic units from Pleiades or Citrotech in Holland - I\u2019ve had variable or poor experience with all the others used. \u2028\r\nReplaced rear suspension cylinder gaiters - twice. \u2028\r\n\r\nRemoved and refitted rear brake drums, cleaned brake shoes and drums.\u2028\r\n\r\nBled and flushed LHM system. This is the unit that progressively engages the clutch as you apply the throttle. We were stuck and this was way before cell phones. As we weighed our options I remembered reading about the crank start and how to use it. The crank fits directly into the transmission and to engage the clutch to the engine there was a small lever under the steering wheel. So I started the car put it in first gear and slowly engaged the lever and the car moved forward. Ended up using it like a clutch pedal and was able to get us home. Ended it up selling it to a close friend in rural Northern California. I would go visit and we would grab some fishing poles, he would raise the suspension, and we would bomb down old logging roads looking for fishing spots along the Pitt or Trinity rivers. My father never tired of explaining the astounding attributes of the car to the many that were intrigued by the funny looking Citroen. My car had been delivered to its original owner in Niece, France and then exported to the US shortly thereafter. I assume under a European delivery plan. My car changed hands twice in the US until I bought it. Similar to this one, it had a white exterior and a refreshed multicolor interior. Differences: the old horizontal speedo, red fluid, and four sealed beam headlights instead of the much preferred swiveling headlamps of this car. I had the misfortune to spin a main bearing. Ted Ax of Ax and Allies in Denver, CO and I rebuilt the car from stem to stern including most if not all of the service this owner has performed. I saved with sweat equity but it was still a fair bit of money. As an aside, never, ever use starter fluid in this DS or any other. The previous owner living in Wyoming used it liberally to start the car in Wyoming in the cold winters. Almost all the piston rings were broken.\r\nI loved that car and it drove as so many have mentioned... you think you have enjoyed a smooth ride in your fill in the blank? Do not kid yourself for a second. Simply there is no better over the road car foreign or domestic. The DS will cruise serenely at 80 to 90 mph all day. Ask me how I know. \r\nTo be quite honest, it would cost one any where from $80-100+K to duplicate this car and that would require starting with a very good DS. I am so tempted to renew my ownership history with this one but the next knock at the door would be my financial advisor asking me what I was thinking followed by the FBI curious as to where I just happened to come up with a spare $100+K. \r\nTo the seller, I doff my cap, to the buyer, you have no idea how good these cars are. Yes, your Mercedes, Bentleys and Rollers will next be seen on an upcoming BAT auction. If you have never driven let alone ridden in a DS you won't understand. Obviously the RoRo is cheaper than a container but for this gem I'd opt for a container. From soup to nuts they were perfect every step of the way. They also suggested and facilitated a customs broker to shepherd my car along the way from Galveston to my home in Lone Tree, Colorado. Given our cars are/were both pr-'75's there were no hassles whatsoever. Once you have decided on a shipper and transit time you can go to the internet and watch your ship cross the Atlantic and ultimately watch you port of unlading. It takes a bit more time with the vehicle in a container simply because the RoRo's exit first followed by the containers. The RoRo's pass through customs relatively quickly while the containers must first be extracted then unpacked and finally passed through customs.
