They used a battery cell system similar to the 2012 Volt I had and those batteries, when needed, are expensive to buy and to install. I've been told that unlike the new Ultium packs individual cells that malfunction can't be diagnosed and replaced. Still, if this is properly cared for, the current battery pack could expect to perform for ten years and about 200,000 miles (with some degradation over time). I had an acquaintance who bought one in 2013 and it was always one of those vehicles that people stop and look at. I have had one battery module replaced in 11 years of ownership, and it cost less than $1000. I believe the Karma Revero battery pack design is similar to the original Fisker Karma, but it was just enlarged.
