While a hard top is nice to have, FJ40's are way more fun to drive without them. I had a 78 for 15 years. I took the top off for summer and put it back on for winter for a a couple years and that got old fast. Then the hard top spent the next 12 years hanging in the rafters of my garage. \n\nFJ40's will rust out quickly in winter driving so I primarily drive them when the streets are dry and salt free.\n\nSoft tops give you the best of both worlds if they have a stock heater. Unfortunately most SA Cruisers have no heater.
