What a sharp eye. The motor with the pill box air cleaners and small oil breather is from another Pre A car. How I missed this in my review shows how fallible I am. The motor pictures with the \"Mushroom\" air cleaners and \"Super\" oil breather is correct. Frank Atkinson owned this car for 60+ years and hopped up the two piece case to 1600 cc. I suspect he did not reveal this when he was racing. Or maybe he did. Robert sent me pictures, and measurements for the tail lights. What would be the backup light on a later car is the brake light on these cars. The front and rear were hit while racing (I believe) Note in the metal work pics. that the front end had horn grills added at some time in its life. My dad's shop often updated 356s this way. The three spoke steering wheel is correct per both of these experts. I bought it from Robert Brocker. Upon removal of the dash, it showed signs of being Red. I've restored many Pre-A cars, and the dash color is all over the place. The last 1953 I restored was Black over Green with a Red dash. Factory records are very detailed for Reutter cars, and from a Reutter family member, Guido Eickholz - Erlkonig Classic GmbH. All I have from Glaser is the VIN# and the exterior color, plus the hand written build sheets included in the above pictures. If you have read my descriptions you'll see the motors were changed at the factory early on. While we are discussing the finishing, the factory put many, many coats of primer on the car. That was their method of \"Flattening\" the metal before the final color coats. As I have stated many times outside of this venue, we \"Skim Coat\" the finished metal. My dad in his shop in the 50s went to this method. He found the filler was like glue and held up much better than thick primer. Todays fillers are much superior. When I say \"Skim Coat\" that is what I mean. One block sands that in four directions to achieve a \"Flat\" surface. I do not wish to blow my own horn, but I've been doing it this way for forty + years, and have never had a car come back for paint failure. And, as most people in the hobby know, I've not been in hiding. Are any of my cars \"PERFECT\" ? ABSOLUTELY NOT. Some of the obvious ones are the fit and finish of the gaps. 356's have 'No\" straight lines, the sides roll from the top of the door to the very bottom of the wire edged rocker. It is no easy task to have a continuous curve from top to bottom \"and\" front to back, compounded by door adjustments , which are a challenge \"in and of\" themselves. The top on Cabriolets are a bear, let alone on such a rare car, starting with the top mechanism that no one will see, it has to be functional, the wood bows have to be made as well as the wood behind the rear seat and above the windshield to adhere the material with hand hammered tacks. No one will ever see that work but it has to be right before the three layers of materials are put together to support that beautiful top. You gotta love that \"mail slot\" rearview mirror. The deco strips around the back of the top look very smooth and fluent, they are a real PITA to nail in. I almost forgot to mention the aluminum handles to pull the top down and the dome light. Polished aluminum deco pieces at the end of the garnish rails where the side windows ride. Just outstanding Jim!\r\nThe color combination is terrific, the interior and the front seats look very inviting. Keiper recliners were a rare option and you have managed to have them on the passenger seat as well. The chrome work... impeccable. I really appreciate how you bound the carpet with a color so as to transition the exterior to the interior. The \"S\" shaped rear view mirror stalk with hand filed \"beveled\" glass and the smoke grey sun visors wrapped in the aluminum frame that swivel on a single cast aluminum ball, all neat stuff. The rear seat is also \"very\" cool, unlike the Reutter seats that just fold down in one piece. Glaser did not miss an opportunity, giving the firewall panel a pattern to look at when the seat was pulled down. Jim did not miss the opportunity either. The grab handle, where do you find one of those? Better yet, where do you have one made? The early green gauges really pop on that dash color, even the map light works!!! The correct Sekurit logos on all of the windows, the extremely rare manual antenna. Leather in the surround for the rear deck lid pull. The rear seat is \"very\" cool, unlike the Reutter seat that just folds down in one piece. Glaser did not miss an opportunity. Highly detailed motor, mushroom air cleaners and a Porsche oil tag. Where did you get that exhaust made? I rarely see flat tipped exhaust, that is awesome.
