It is still open, but makes a noticeable difference in acceleration and can still bomb down the freeway all day well north of 100 MPH. It gives the car an amazing stance and handling that makes you purposely seek out twisty roads. Even with the lower ride height, it has no problems getting over speed bumps or up steep driveways. Apparently, this is a common issue on the M6x engine family. I believe they were replaced about 5 years ago. That last thing I noticed, and I could be wrong, but the fan clutch is on the weak side. The car never overheats but I would probably replace it at some point. For cars without the M rear bumper and rear fender liner, you may get rubbing at the top of the wheel arch on the fender liner. The factory solution of M5s to fit the 275/35/18s was a rolled fender with a reshaped liner providing additional clearance.
