The high pressure area at the position of the scoop opening, facing the windshield, is ideal to feed the Quadrajet ... at speed. Feeding air into that carb with an open scoop at around 40-60 makes it feel free. \r\nHaving 50lbs of converter removed never hurts, as does a 160F thermostat and 6degree advance on a 403. \r\nI've heard bad things about headers, about clearance. I'm probably wrong, but it's pretty tight in there. Dual exhaust = bad ass! These cars are so much fun it's stupid! One of my cousins bought new Trans Am s back all through the 70\u2019s, up to I believe 79. The best most powerful was I believe a 1973, (the best looking too), 455 SD, 4 speed with Posi rear. Man that car was a beast! All he did was add headers, an Edelbrock Intake Manifold and Holley Carb, But man did that help. Sadly the car was stolen before he changed the Camshaft and Heads. I remember driving that car and you had to be very careful with the GO pedal, because that engine had so much torque you could light the tires up at any speed under 25 mph! in either 1st, 2nd or 3rd! I remember just going through the gears at half throttle up to 100 mph, then flooring it, I let off at 130, at just under 4,500 , the yellow line on the tach that turned red at 5,000! He replaced it with a 1975, with what was supposed to be the most powerful engine that year, a 455 HO, but sadly was nothing like the SD was.
