I have had my 04 V70R for over 5 years now. It's been very reliable overall. In my 80k miles of ownership I did all new 4c's, timing belt, cam seals, water pump, alternator, abs module, and general suspension/bushings/mounts. I am currently doing a ton of bolt on modifications. Quite amazing how much of an aftermarket performance market there is with these Volvo's. IPD, Snabb, Evolve etc etc. \n\nThis color and flash green seem to be the most desirable. I am blown away by the condition of your seats. They are some of the best seats I have ever experienced but the leather doesn't age well in most cases. \n\nIn regards to the angle gear, it seems the cheapest and easiest fix is to drill holes and plug weld it. The alternative is ridiculously expensive from my recollection. \n\nThe 4c shocks are the weakest link in these cars and are very costly to replace but the prices have come down. \n\nI agree, these are absolutely fantastic road trip cars. And the stock stereo is one of the best systems I ever heard in a car of this time period. My only complaint, the Pirelli tires it wore from the factory barely lasted 10K miles. This car is an absolute blast to drive but be careful when it breaks loose in a corner you going really fast. I sought one of these for a long time, after seeing them come on line in 2003. By 2005, they still had not dropped enough in price so I bought an s60. When the s60 loan had finally closed, I looked hard and found my 07 exactly one year ago this next week, for my 50th birthday. THIS one is super clean and is kept indoors, but outside and with good care, they can still be kept very clean, as I do with mine (quality manufacturing materials and finishes and normal wash/wax).\n\nEnthusiasts do know the details, and are very helpful with their knowledge, and sightings of them are far and few between 10-13 years later (only made 4 years, and in limited numbers) and people get geeked up and take pictures of you in traffic and follow you. I've seen maybe five others in the wild on the road randomly this last year (not including at pre-scheduled Volvo enthusiast gatherings). Combine big power and performance, safety and style, cargo capabilities (even a very capable and strong roof rack can be had for a hundred or two that installs/removes easily with no drilling), and you had a winner from the start. Tuning can be done to get even more power, with some careful upgrades, and steps are well documented, support from aftermarket is large.\n\nDriving one of these is unlike ANY standard Volvo model of the era, and while they are maintenance hogs, the issues are documented well, and can be rectified with care and attention. You will be shocked at the wolf in sheep's clothing. Be prepared to have a healthy amount of cash on hand to attend to things as they arise year after year, or you could get into trouble quick. I drove and looked at many all over the nation, and was lucky to source the last year of production in Passion Red and the same 6 speed GT trans. That is probably the ONLY thing that will need investigation on this car: the serial number of the trans (which had a series of valve body issues for shifting and possible failure). Volvo has a 'replace the part for life' pay once guarantee at the moment, if you get them to do the work, but there are really good independent dealers/mechanics that you should also make friends with just in case, as they know these things very well.\n\nThe good--\nThe 4C suspension is awesome... Smooth for the family, sport for daily driving, and advanced for more spirited ramps or curvy country back roads; The stereo in stock form is very high quality - add the rare, over the spare but in floor subwoofer, and it's amazing; the climate package this one has is nice (not all had it, but heated mirrors for icy or wet conditions and heated front seats in low or high are great); brakes that feel like you're going to be ripped you out of your seat belt - they just work really well!; the seats and leather quality leave you feeling 'ensconced in [leather]' as George Costanza would say, and are wonderful for short and long trips without feeling fatigued; power in 2006/07 was not torque limited on the auto - hit it and it GOES (and the torque is pretty amazing for a small 2.5 litre); the rarity (more rare than a 63 split window or a superbird! [07 estates, at least]); a thriving community on places like SwedeSpeed, v70R, VolvoSpeed and Matthews Volvo sites to get answers and help; a computer software program to interface with your car and learn what its issues are; SAFETY (Volvo is very well known for this); sonic blue (one of the two more rare colors on an already rare car). \n\nThe bad--\nTurning radius... Forget tooling around and whipping into parking spaces or into tight maneuvers (That won't happen, with low stance and wide tires. First, if you take this car into a wet/snowy environment you will end up replacing the spline sleeve in the transmission. That wicked little cog engages the AWD and tends to fuse itself to the output shaft causing you to become front drive only and lighting up your warning display like Time Square. It was one of the few repairs I didn\u2019t do myself because if the sleeve is properly fused it needs a specialist with more skills and a better library of curse words than I currently enjoy. \r\nSecond, everything is $400 dollars even if you do it yourself, that\u2019s just the minimum price of admission. The perfect color combo!\n\nHad the next model down v70 T5 as a 500 mile a week daily driver for three years. Originally bought well used (100k) for our full time sitter to haul the kids around in. When they were school age we didn't need it anymore so I took it to Carmax with 150k and was offered $1,500. Instead I dumped my leaky old 318iC and made it my daily driver. Rebuilt the front suspension and drove it to 275k. At that point the AC compressor gave out and I sold it in otherwise decent shape for $600 on Craigslist. These P2 Volvos will take a good licking and keep on ticking. Should have bought another for a DD instead of my current disaster, an A3. In theory the car sounds great. Rare, cool 6spd, turbo, awd, adjustable suspension, etc.\r\n\r\nIn practicality i had issues with all of the above. AWD system had issues with electronics, spider gears, etc on two occassions, suspension all struts needed replaced around 75k, turbo was on its way out at 100k, every single bushing in the car needed replaced around that 75k mark as well, and lets not even start on the turning radius which is probably comparable to a big rig pulling dual trailers on it. \r\n\r\nI would occassionaly get compliments from fellow car enthusiasts and would always tell them to look at something else. \r\n\r\nThe two biggest compliments to the car however, the seats are damn near godly perfect comfortable and supportive, and it was a very comfortable GT car.", "likes": 2, "timestamp": 1501015194, "type": "comment"}]
