It's been my experience that if you drive the car at least once a week the vinyl and plastic interior will begin to fall apart. Over time and depending on how much exposure to sunlight the car got the plastics get brittle and break at the slightest touch and the vinyl tears easily so plan on replacing that soon (and if blue is not available? there goes the white on blue). \n\n@Frost there were hundreds of thousands of these 240zs made between 1969 (early series-I) to 1973. The plastics become flaky and chalky that break easily on the 79-83. The Z31 84-89 300zx was very well built and have very durable interiors. Same with the 90-96.\n\nThere isn't too many rust problem areas on this Z as most people seem to mention. The floors are very solid and very straight. The battery tray only has surface rust where the paint has come off.\n\nThe passenger rear dogleg bottom corner seems to be the spot where it shows rust through and a bit of bubbling under the name plate, other than that it's overall pretty solid. I restored a '78 280Z that was in similar condition. The floors and frame-rails were solid, which they appear to be on this car as well, but other areas had a lot of work to do.\n\nThese cars tended to rust from the inside out, so anywhere that is bubbling often means a lot most rust hidden under the paint.\n\nIt is completely do-able, even for an amateur with decent welding equipment. But, there will be significant work going into this car to correct the rust it shows, and that which will be discovered once the paint is removed. Any area that has rusted through likely has significant rot inside. i have to completely rebuild the front of both of the rockers (behind the fender, where they join the frame-rail) on my car, they were non-existent.\n\nThat being said, this is an early series 1 that appears to have a lot original bits. It is also a VERY rare and desirable color combination. The only blue interior I have seen in the flesh was on a blue on blue car at Mecum Indy 2015, Lot S83 for those who want to check it out. That car was SPECTACULAR and did not meet reserve at over $50K. The market has only increased since then, and that was a '71, not a series 1.\n\nThis car is completely worth saving, and I could see the current bid being about half of the final bid if there are a number of people interested who know how special it is. Regardless of how quick you are to neutralize it prior to sealing it up. POR-15 use to be the \"Go-to\" frame-sealer many moons ago. No-more ! WURTH's \"Rust-Guard\" is Top-Dog ! Excellent & Incredible, are the two words to describe WURTH's Rust-Guard. And Eastwood's similar product is a strong 2nd in-line to WURTH's. In my case, added an electric fuel pump to supplement the mechanical one, went to electronic MSD ignition for stronger spark, replaced the original exhaust with the ABARTH racing system that was offered during that time through Fisher, added the 5 speed transmission from an 81 ZX ( the 5 speed should have been standard in my opinion) slotted mags, bigger tires and better suspension.\nThe SU's stay and actually work quite well, radiator, a/c if you have it as mine did, headers, brakes ( ceramic pads) and all the other original stuff remain.\nWhen you open the hood, only thing you see out of place is the ignition. BTW, you can keep the points with a little adjustment but you still lose performance. The only \" must change\" is the exhaust.
