I've had no real issues with mine, timing belt was the most expensive cost so far but it still has relatively low mileage. \n\nOn longer day trips, in spite of its GT reputation, I find that it's difficult to shift my butt to an alternate position and the power seat doesn't help much overall. So, I've solved that comfort issue with a small pillow that changes the seating position. That's about my only complaint though. I've considered having the seat yanked and re-upholstered with more padding, but haven't done it. \nI babied this car for years but driving it quicker in my old age. Didn't realize for a long time that when you stomp on it, the accelerator will go about two inches past where you'd assume the floor to be. BTW, if that dash crack near the defroster bothers you, 99% of them all have it, shop around if you don't believe me. \n\nDespite popular belief, it's not the maintenance that will hurt your wallet, it's the gas consumption! Prepare to trailer this home because driving it will cost you a fortune, and I'm a conservative driver. I brought mine up from 60 mph to 110 mph (fastest I've ever gone in it) only once, and the car ran just as smooth as it did at 60mph.\n\nBuyers: Please note that the timing belt will need a re-adjustment in a few thousand miles (nothing expensive). Also remember that these cars run through brake pads, as they're heavy automobiles. \n\nI'm still staying true to my word when I said a while ago that it won't be my last 928 S4. I will get another one at some point. The only one I would want with the stick would be the later GTS. \nMIne has the vent cracks on the dash and pod as did all examples I looked at unless those items were attended to. Mine came original with the fuchs 16 inch manhole covers and I think tt wheels look more modern but keeping it as original as possible. I can assure you the car alignment is correct and when driving in a straight line... the wheel is in the correct position. \n3. I chose to put on the turbo-twist 18\" wheels when I noticed that tire makers were offering fewer available options in 16\" tires. I personally felt the 18\" lower profile wheels filled out the wheel wells of the 928 very nicely and that the Porsche turbo-twist lines matched up well with the smooth body lines of the 928. I installed the updated timing belt tensioner system sold by 928's R Us that uses a modern Audi belt tensioner. The appropriate pads on an S4 (or later 928) will last longer than in most cars on the road because of the four-piston Brembo brake system. I have a 91 automatic and absolutely love it. Some people love the manuals, but I prefer the automatic in the later cars (I sold my 5 speed S4 after deciding this was the one to keep). I drive it pretty much every day and always hate to park it at the end of my commute. There is no comparing these to early cars as they are so different: extremely refined when you want it, endless torque when you want it, and accompanied by all the modern performance and safety features. The updated dash of the 90 has a much more modern look and feel than the 89 in my opinion. The PSD is superb and seamless.\n\nThis car looks to have been well maintained. The new seat covers and condition of the rear quarter trim (no warping) are just a couple signs of great care. The mechanicals look very nice and I would definitely take a superbly maintained car with more miles over one with lots of deferred maintance and fewer miles. These cars are so incredibly robust.\n\nAs for the wheels, that's a detail, and a personal one (I happen to like 17 inch cup 2 wheels .... You say tomato I say tomaaato). The concept was to buy Classic GT cars (wife's ,luggage, vast distances ) sort them thoroughly and drive them as designed. We quickly narrowed our search down to only German GT cars M6, 840 and 850, as well as the 928. Bill was the first to pull the trigger and buy a 93 GTS 5speed then something happened that was never in the plan I bought a 88 S4 5 speed and Kevin followed with a 90 S4 Auto. All three cars Performed flawlessly though many demanding driving situations and drew a lots of attention and questions throughout the trip. Everytime a 928 is listed on BaT the discussion of 5 speed vs auto seems to be a point of contention. All my collector cars are 3 pedal no cup holders , however, I only drive them places I don't have to go. The 5 speed 928's are 20% more expensive all other things being equal due to much fewer numbers. There are many people who feel the auto is better suited for the car ( the weight and size of same year 911 not much different) the 4 speed auto is a very robust unit and would be the best choice for many. \r\n I love the color combo of this example and wouldn't be afraid of the mileage provided proper service records are provided.
