The 997 is ridiculously easy to change the oil on - you can actually do it without even getting under the car or jacking it up. Quicker for me to do it then go to a mechanic, arrange a ride, return, etc. I can look thru my Amazon history and probably find the receipts for oil, engine, and cabin filters. In the spring of 2016 I did the brakes and spark plugs during the swap to the summer shoes. Again - I can find the receipts for the parts but there is no labor. Pads are a simple DIY job especially since I was taking the wheels off anyway. Spark plugs aren't too bad if you pull the mufflers (easy).\n\n@Visceral & @BMW_RACER - Typical Service: I think there are two factors at play here. I bought the car at Land Rover in Pompano right across the parking lot from Champion Porsche who sold the car new. While Champion wouldn't give me copies they did let me look thru the history over the guy's shoulder and praised how clean and well maintained the car was. I then walked back across the parking lot and bought the car (trading in a Range Rover). The Land Rover dealer is part of the AutoNation group of car dealers (350 franchises) and had a 30 day warranty. When I got back to the gulf side of Florida I went to the Porsche dealer in Naples who (is not associated with AutoNation nor dealer who did the other maintenance ) and told them to go over EVERYTHING and fix anything that was questionable. It all got billed to the AutoNation warranty (1st factor). Naples Porsche indicated b/c the car had so little use (the 2nd factor: 1100 miles in first 4 years) that it is typical for those seals to dry out. Since I wasn't paying - I took their word and had the work done. I also then decided to buy an extended warranty - which BTW I could still do b/c the car was under warranty w/ the AutoNation warranty! I suspect many of the subsequent repairs were suggested b/c of that extended warranty. But yes - the water pump, pulleys, and shift cable are very well known \"maintenance\" items and could have also been partly b/c of the extremely little use in 4 years. The PCM was probably just a way to make a few $s off the warranty. It was an extremely intermittent issue and I was afraid it would break out of warranty so I complained. Washer pump....no idea if that is typical or not.The pressure plates cracking isn't all that uncommon either. CVs go bad in any car. I suspect the steering rack could have been simply fixed with a seal but with the warranty they authorized replacement.\n\n@Visceral - I actually do have the rear badging. I believe the car was ordered without it based on the option code 912 \"OHNE TYPSCHILD\" which translates to \"WITHOUT TYPE\". I suspect the 2nd owner put it on. No engine removal and all the part #s are listed.\n\nRegarding the IMS...this is NOT a 996 nor is it an early 997 before the bigger bearing was installed. This is the M97 engine with the improved larger bearing. Furthermore, the bearing was inspected both in 2012 @ 15k miles and 2016 @ 41K miles. I also corresponded with Jack Raby when I bought the car - his advice was to do nothing other then don't neglect oil changes, inspect the oil for debris, and re-inspect the bearing when changing the clutch. I even put a magnetic oil drain plug in to make it easier to see any debris (never any). I would encourage anybody interested to do your own due diligence as I did when I bought the car. There's tons of information good/bad out there and dozens if not hundreds of opinions that are better researched outside of BaT. Sport Chrono on a manual car does actually make a difference, it activates a different throttle map that makes the car more responsive. I've owned several 987/997s with Sport Chrono, my default was to always activate it when driving. If you want to add it, you can either purchase the remap and Sport button from the dealership, or go with an aftermarket tune that provides the same effect. So there are options. The Sport Chrono timer is, however, worthless.\n\nI would assume that the IMS seal was removed and replaced during a visual inspection of the IMS? The later M97 IMS is indeed much more reliable than the M96, which frankly has been exponentially blown out of proportion by the internet. Perhaps you have looked at more Porsche's with the vinyl seats on the partial leather inserts? These are the full leather seats, door panels, dash, etc and they look and feel like natural leather unlike some leather car seats where the top coat is almost like a thin layer of plastic hiding everything natural about leather. This is also a 2007 and by no means a museum time capsule. No I don't have a dog - but a dog has been in the front seat occasionally when I'd watch my parent's dog. Typically I'd drive a FJ40 when I have him but have used the Porsche to meet them at the IL/WI border as it has air conditioning and is a more comfortable ride. He's never been in the back seat but I believe the previous owner had child seats in the back which is why he ended up trading it in for a Land Rover after a year. I have submitted additional photos of the rear arm rest and seat backs to BaT. Should be up shortly. On the wings you have the 87-89 911 which may be the most overvalued of any. You can pay 60k for a G50 911 when a 930 is 25k more. The same goes for the 997. Turbo clears at 57k and a 4S 42k. It gets funky when you look at the 996 Turbo verses the 997 Turbo. They trade close to one another but the NA 996/997 are quite a gap apart. I love the back and forth and all the bidding.
