Scott is a close friend, and is one of the best known Laverda builders in the country who has restored or rebuilt more than a hundred Laverdas. Scott moved to Colorado a little over two years ago from New Mexico to work at my repair/restoration shop (Moto Works Denver). I bought the unfinished bike from him and together we completed the restoration this last summer (2022). All of the basic restoration work (engine, painting, brightwork, suspension, wheels, OEM parts, gauges, etc) had been completed before my acquisition. I completed the following in the last year:\r\na.\tFresh tires\r\nb.\tAcquired, and had rebuilt, period Koni shocks\r\nc.\tElectrical work; new high output Bosch coils, new spark plugs, electronic ignition, and completed the wiring using an original harness; replaced original starter relay and battery\r\nd.\tRecovered the seat using an original seat cover as a pattern for the sewn (not embossed) replacement\r\ne.\tBrake master and calipers rebuilt and fluid refreshed (brake master is a re-sleeved original Brembo and both calipers are original; together the brake parts alone are worth at least $1K to collectors)\r\nf.\tForks freshly serviced (new seals, dust boots, fluid)\r\ng.\tNew drive chain (Regina)\r\nh.\tRebuilt Dellorto carburetors\r\ni.\tInstalled NOS air cleaner and new filters\r\nj.\tFilled with oil, tuned the carbs, checked all clearances, broke in and test rode (bike is still in initial 100 mile break in period)\r\n\r\n2)\tEngine build \u2013 as you can see from the photos submitted, the engine had virtually no miles on it when the restoration began. The outside of the engine was discolored from smoke but the inside of the engine was pristine. The pistons skirts weren\u2019t scuffed and the factory honing marks on the cylinder walls were still fresh. The undersides (crowns) of the pistons were not discolored from any significant run time. When the side cases were cleaned there were no marks on the clutch side cover next to the brake lever where a riding boot normally contacts/rubs the alloy. The Borrani rims also had no gouges from post factory tire changes. Scott\u2019s best estimate is that the bike saw less than 100 miles of run time before being damaged in the fire. So effectively, this is an ultra low original mileage motorcycle/engine (albeit damaged and subsequently restored to factory new condition) with only break in miles since the refurbishment. \r\nThe engine refurbishment included complete engine disassembly and inspection with replacement of all serviceable parts (seals, gaskets, rings, plastic parts such as tensioners, rollers, etc). The sandcast engine cases were vapor-blasted and the case covers polished. \r\n\r\n3)\tThe restoration was conducted as a personal project over two decades by one of the best Laverda restorers in the business. No expense was spared to return the bike to its original factory condition using new old stock or high quality used/refurbished parts in the build. It has an fascinating history, is in as-new condition, and is ready to ride or show.\r\n\r\n4)\tNon original parts include the Spiegler brake lines and Tarozzi rearsets. Also the electronic ignition. These changes were made to make the bike more comfortable (and safe) to ride. The local tractor guy in ITaly outside of NAples, sold Laverda tractors, same pronounciation.
