Any missing part of the smog control system or non functional means it will not pass. Even the Cats would have to be the stock one or a very pricey California compliant part. That means getting this car to pass would be hard. \r\n\r\nYou also might be thinking, I'll find \"That shop\" that will do \"The thing\" and it magically passes. Those shops do not last long, the fines for faking a test are bad, and the state might yank their business license, and at best, they won't be allowed to smog cars anymore. \r\n\r\nKnowingly disabling your smog equipment in Cali has draconian, up to 5K a day fines IIRC right. If you operate an unregistered car on the streets of California, they can impound the car. \r\n\r\nBefore things got bad, I knew a guy with maybe this actual car, I mean it looked just like this right down to the mods, and it was scary fast. He sold it at some point. This was long enough ago, you could still find a few places to do a fake test. \r\n\r\nThere is a lot of talk on the interwebs about the EPA forcing California to drop is state specific smog standards, and some people thing smog checks will go away. If that were the case, this car would be fine in the state. If any of this will happen, who knows, but its fun to think about. California is currently on the path to banning all old cars from cities at \"Peak hours\" so pretty much all the time. It be nice to see that stuff go away.
