In addition to the\u00a0obvious bodywork needed there are dozens of little things that need to be done, and those all add up.\u00a0 Here is a list of things I know need to be done. I'm happy to expand on anything people have questions on, and I'll add more if and when I think of them.\u00a0 I don't want the project ending up unfinished because a buyer thought it was just a paint-n-go type of situation.\n\n* Gauges don't work - I have a plan and diagrams to share. Alternatively, the original gauges could be used if you were inclined.\n* Heater controls need work - there are 3 options here.\n* Turn signals don't cancel\n* Need to install an\u00a0LED-appropriate flasher for the turn signals.\n* Horn needs to be hooked up.\n* Clock in the console does not work - I have parts and options to fix.\n* Gas tank needs cleaning and/or coating\n* Parking brake needs work - I suspect the cable\n* Brake pads and rotors should be changed due to sitting\n* Rear wheel wells are not water tight due to cutting.\n* The front wheel wells have no covers and look kit-car-like.\n* Alignment is off all-around due to the lowering\n* Headlights were never aimed/adjusted\n* Hood does not have hinges installed\n* The two-spacer set up on the back wheels was meant to test out the\u00a0spacing needed, but was never meant to be permanent. It should be replaced with a custom one-piece spacer.\u00a0\n* The switch panel in the center console is not screwed down.\n* My rear hatch design isn't holding up well. Given the time, I'd re-do\u00a0it completely.\n* There is no\u00a0latch installed on the trunk currently.\n* The photos showing areas of bodywork needed are a sampling. Most of the body needs some level of finishing. I primered the car to give myself a mental boost to see it all in one color, and to highlight areas that needed finishing, not because it's ready for paint.\u00a0\n* The front bumpers are just bolted on, but I'd planned to make brackets for them like I did with the rear bumpers. The car also looks good without them.\n* The side dash air vents are hooked up, but they don't stay in place. Some trimming/finegeling is needed to get them to click in.\u00a0\n*\u00a0The radio in the dash is basically only a faceplate.\u00a0\u00a0I'd always intended to install a bluetooth+amp set up. There are speakers, but they're 10 years old.\u00a0\n* The switches that control the cruise and the hazards are not hooked up. I have the OEM ones, although I'd planned to adapt period correct switches.\u00a0\n* I'd wanted to replace the stalk-mounted headlight/wiper controls with something more period correct in the dash.\n* The trunk liner is saggy.\n* The car comes with two spares (original delSol, and a Ford one that matches the size of the current tires better. Neither will fit in the spare tire well with the modifications I made for the exhaust.\u00a0\n* The dash nameplate is just resting in place. I didn't love the way it turned out, so I didn't adhere it. I think a black one would look better.\u00a0\n* I always planned to have the dash professionally wrapped in real leather. I think it\u00a0looks fairly hacky as it\u00a0is now.\u00a0\n\nI bought the delSol specifically for this project, but used it as a daily driver for a year (2014-2015) to shake out any issues it might have. On that car, the b-pillar slopes the wrong way (tilts forward rather than back, which doesn't flow with the Dino bodylines), it has window-mounted mirrors (as opposed to door mounted) and a t-bar rather than an actual targa. From a design perspective, the delSol has a lot more in common with the Dino than any RWD donor. Plus, there are tons of RWD delSol conversions if I ever wanted to go that route. Also, the underhood clearance issues you need to deal with in a build like this are limited by the strut towers, not the actual engine. Therefore, any modern RWD/Mid-engine car would have the same clearance obstacles as a FWD car.
