There was a kid in college that had one that was black with Cromodora wheels that was amazing. As always, we appreciate the opening insight and commentary. It is a certainly a very cool example that, in my opinion, has been period modified in a tasteful and practical way. It\u2019s got a cool story, too. As shown on the invoice, it was purchased by the original owner on March 6, 1972 from Bob Sharp Motors in Wilton, CT and kept the car for many years. He sold it to a friend who used it for a short period of time, after which it was purchased back by the original owner/named on the original dealer invoice and current ownership document. Speaking of, cars produced prior to 1973 are never issued a title here in New York. They receive a transferable registration that is the ownership document. Cars produced in 1973 and newer receive a non-transferable registration and title. This is a non-issue.\n\nSeveral have already pointed out that the modifications performed on this car are what we would have seen \u201cback in the day,\u201d and in my opinion, suit the car beautifully. It has taken considerable resources in both time and money to bring this Z to its current state, in order to realize what the previous owner (who\u2019s the original owner) may have wanted to accomplish when he purchased the car new. \n\n @Erikdb5 Please see above. If it's the 3.90 out of the late 280ZX, along with the matching 5-speed (known as the close ratio), it's considered by many to be the best combination. I was able to purchase a 5-speed overdrive transmission and 390 limited slip differential from Datsun Competition in Gardena, CA. fitted specifically to the 240Z. Many original cars came with Shelby magnesium slotted wheels. I mean no disrespect to the seller but keep in mind that this car has many modifications that are not original to the OEM Datsun 240Z, for example the later model transmission and differential. MINILITES!!!! \n\nMine was a '73, also purchased new from a dealership in Shillington PA, yellow with the factory black stripes on the sides. A few years into my ownership I also painted the lower rocker panels black which made the Z look lower and meaner. I couldn't afford Minilites, but I had lots of BRE parts on mine.\n\nI put BRE sway bars on mine. The rear bar was easy peasey, the bront was a bear. So being young and stupid, I said \"F it\" and just changed the rear at first. On a twisty farm road, I got a quick education in snap oversteer. Thank God the big guy upstairs takes care of indiots, as I didn't win a Darwin award that day. The front bar went on after that drive.\n\nNo one commented on @racer355 starting the car. He reached down and pulled up on the manual choke - how many folks here have ever had a car with a manual choke? That was the Achilles heel of my Z. I bet I snapped off 4 or 5 of those flimly choke levers during my ownership.\n\nI enjoyed the trip down memory lane, but I also enjoyed \"meeting\" Jason. I remember when sports car dealerships were owned by car guys, before Penske, Autonation and the rest ruined the business model.
