In nearly all states and metro areas this car could be registered with no trouble. Some states have safety inspections, some will let you register nearly anything that can move under its own power (hello, Michigan and Alabama). Most states have emissions inspections, but few cover cars this old. Hell, in Illinois even my 2013 VW Jetta (Golf) wagon is completely ignored by the state because it's a diesel. But California is the strictest of all, and it's very strict. To be legally registered in California this car would have to have all emissions-related equipment that was present on the US version (it might or might not have everything but the cat) and would have to be tested by the one facility that does this work and pass 1985 standards. It's doable but would probably cost ~$4-5k. I know - I drove an 86 T16S Aero and had a bunch of mates with 84's and 85's which lived with the incessant braking headaches due to the solid discs warping regular as clockwork.\r\nThat was the benefit of the S evolution and vented front discs.\r\nRepairing brakes and changing out discs was a regular Saturday job, including setting up the handbrakes and fixing the all too ready to fail window regulators... On the brakes you had to remember which Textar pad went on the inside and which on the outside, because one was softer than the other, for the front handbrake.\r\nNeither were Aero's two-tone in Europe. One of the few factory two-tones was the Tjugofem.\r\n\r\nAero's also had headlamp wipers as standard - all Euro markets.\r\n\r\nThis looks more like a T16 which has had the parts bin thrown at it.\r\nThat's the Dealer-fit Airflow kit. T16 Aero kits did not have the inbuilt fog lights up front - only the later Carlsson had those, from MY1989 onwards.\r\n\r\nNo gauge pack in a factory Aero, and the exhaust is definitely aftermarket - you can find those on EBay - the Euro dealer twin pipe had red inserts, like a pipe inside a pipe. Always wanted a set but by the time I had the capicos to be frivolous, I had moved up to the 9000 and the Abbott Racing parts bin instead... ;))\r\n\r\nThe steering wheel is definitely one of the Accessory items and Aeros never came with super-inca's. All came with the 3-spoke 15 inchers.\r\n\r\nI think the handwritten invoice/note towards the end tells you what it is - a 900T 'deluxe' and that would make more sense.\r\n\r\nAdding a cat to this may be a nightmare, because Europe voluntarily moved to cats after 1989, becoming mandatory in April 1992. It was not a special model, but a special equipment line with (almost) all the extras that were available. Hence the name \u201cSaab 900 with Luxury Package\u201d. \r\nThis is how you can recognize a Saab 900 with the luxury equipment regardless of the paint job: For the MY 83, the chassis code ends with \u201cSE\u201d, if it is a luxury, for \u201cSpecial Edition\u201d. With the 1984 model year, a new standard for the naming of its vehicles followed in the Saab chassis code. The old SE designation was replaced by \u201cLUX\u201d. \r\n\r\n3. From time to time, however, repaints in the 2-color tone for \"normal\" Saab 900 were carried out from the owners later, sometimes close to the original tone, sometimes further away. This Saab 900 Turbo 16V from 1985 has also been repainted as a two-color model in the course of its existence, as it is also described in the text.
