My first car, in 1963 was an MGTD that had been a race car in SCCA E-modified. It was powered with a Volvo B16 that had a cam, 3 speed tranny, no bumpers, no spare tire or rack to hold same, the metal straps holding the tank on were chromed, TR 3 seats and wire wheels. It had a roll bar that was removable, those wide canvass racing seat belts with the lever that folded over to close them. It was the redest red with the grill painted to match. It was a piece of crap compared to this beauty, but it was faster than my friend\u2019s Healey up to about 60mph. I had to put those little chains on the doors you used to see on motel room doors to keep the doors from flying open when doing \u201cheavy\u201d cornering because of chassis flex. It was my high school graduation gift. I used to wonder if my father gave it to me to avoid the expense of college, what with it being such a death trap. If so, he failed, cuz it was broken more than running. When running though, it was really, really cool, I\u2019m betting I could identify the odor of a burning English wiring loom even now. These cars are simple and easy to work on with good parts availability if that person had a degree of a skill set to do so, a rarity in this day and age. They have to be secure or they tend to deploy the infamous TD door \"air brakes\" at speed! \r\n\r\nOn another subject, a top and side curtains may be unnecessary for the majority of folks who will buy these as sunny day fun cars. They do come in handy in colder climates though and they do complete the car. Your choice if you invest in them or not. But do consider the perspective of my friend @oldone2. As his handle suggests, he is a significantly senior citizen approaching triple digits. He is the only person I know who has walked into a MG dealer and bought one these cars brand new. If he strongly supports working weather gear, please consider that he used his TD as actual transportation, not as just a toy car. I will have my top up so I don't get fried. Early TDs had a smaller clutch than later TDs. This only matters if you are ordering a new clutch. I don't see the crank or the clips to locate it behind the seat. I've used the crank when the battery has gone flat. Lastly, I don't see how you can fold the Brooklands screens mounted where they are. Unless you fold the main windscreen you will be looking through two layers of glass. I don't get it, but it isn't my car. Other than that, buy the car, join your local (and the national) club and have a good time. Also, I'm 5'8\" tall and have no trouble getting in and out of the car or driving it. I find it comfortable.
