You pay the premium these early +8s command, especially if in this condition and with provenance, because you want one of the rarer Morgans and still remember how much fun a V8 can be. The brake booster(s) has been removed but they were hard to bleed being so high on the firewall, I would have re-routed the brake lines lower as well. Correct metal floorboards and correct mounting for the fuel tank. What are the metal straps at the rear of the fuel tank, perhaps strengthening the spare wheel wood? The steering wheel is Morgan and may be original for 1971, it was a transitional year for that. The front turn lights look to be early Lucas flat lens type which Morgan used in the 50s. The flag badges might be covering side light holes like on the rear fenders? Side lights may have been added to bring into US? The wood dash is custom but nice. Might have originally had the dash crash pad but looks better without. The round removable fuel filler caps seem very strange, two would be correct but normally of the hinged type. Looks like it would have had a license panel on the rear. Back up lights added, maybe US required. Believe it or not, I cannot find any photos of the interior. True story: from the Works, the emissions data was typed on a 3\"x5\" piece of paper and glued to the side of the firewall. As part of my detail effort, I had the information transferred/etched onto an aluminum plate which I carefully riveted to the firewall. A Moss \u2018box +8 feels different from a +4 in a similar manner to the way a 6-cyl E-type feels different from a V12, or a 6-cyl SL feels different from a V8. Besides the huge difference in torque, obviously the Rover V8 is much smoother than the Triumph 4, and the sound is completely different. Since the V8 is aluminum, it does not impact weight distribution. That said, a +8 does feel heavier to drive and the steering is heavier. Also, the +8 is 2 inches longer (wheelbase and overall length) and 2 inches wider, so it is a little bit roomier. Morgan angled the rear springs on the +8 to give a bit more wheel travel, so the ride is a little better. This car has the rarely-seen original steel floors, which were intended to add a little torsional rigidity (a relative concept when discussing Morgans). The Moss \u2018box +8 has a 3.58 rear end, so it\u2019s considerably more relaxed on the highway than the shorter-geared 4-cylinder +4. A +8 feels a bit \u201ctougher\u201d like the factory hot rod it is, whereas a +4 feels more delicate. These early +8s feel much more vintage, like a +4, than later 5-speed +8s do. During that time mail came from Morgan about a retrofit/warranty update including a new radiator, a pulley or two, hoses and belts. The explanation was that +8s, primarily running on the Continent, were experiencing overheating issues. The \"kit\" slowed down the circulation so cooling improved. For sure I wasn't doing any autobahn runs, but the +8 was in hot-in-summer AZ. Morgan air-freighted the updated parts to my AZ address, and I fitted them during one of my R&R trips. As an aside, after a career overseas, when I finally returned stateside in 2008, I gave the OE radiator - packed in the crate from Morgan for almost 40 years - to one of the WashDC Morgan Club guys. Have no idea what happened to it thereafter. Not long after I gave the OE defroster bars (kept them for no good reason) to another DC area +8 owner, Alan Marsh...we were BMW club tech session partners at the time. Those familiar with that era's Morgans might recall that the factory provided loose wires under the dash and the defroster bars plugged in as/when needed and heated the inside of the windscreen (fixed to the windscreen with suction cups).
