Both versions are based upon the 5.3 liter with increased stroke. The Jaguar engine is not as highly tuned as the TWR engine being limited to 296 bhp/347 lb/ft for EEC markets and 286 bhp/341 lb/ft for the rest of the world due to air injection as well as twin catalysts. Overall performance is is closer because of the 4 speed auto on the Jaguar cars. There are a number of other changes to improve the drivability. Having owned all 3 versions ie 5.3 v12, 4 liter I6 and 6.0 v12 the 6 liter is a much better car. I also prefer the 4 liter to the 5.3 liter especially at the gas pump. \r\nFrom a collectability point of view the TWR will always be a better bet. A little work on the interior and some paintwork on the bumpers and it'll be like new. Always well kept mechanically, I remember swapping cars with the seller on a long distance club drive and squeezing the throttle on the on ramp to the interstate and on hitting the interstate I looked at the speedo and we were doing 95 already, but you'd never have known it. Smooth and effortless and definitely quicker than the '96 XJS 4.0 I had at the time. Parts are a little expensive but not worse than comparable German cars and much less than the Italian performance marques. They are pretty conventionally designed and don't require much in the way of special tools to work on. Stuff like the inboard rear brakes are special and take more time than standard discs to replace but otherwise an XJ-S is no worse than a contemporary Porsche and easier than an MB to work on. \r\nFrom my experience the biggest issue with old Jags is ownership history and deferred maintenance by over-extended owners. These cars got pretty cheap pretty fast and oftentimes were bought by folks who had no idea what it really cost to own and maintain a European luxury car. They don't respond well to being treated like a Camry, but that's exactly what happened to many of them. Consider that this car would sell for $40k minimum in Europe with it's mileage, in its condition. This car's twin, another Red XJRS convertible, sold locally in Glendale AZ last year for over $36K. \r\nJaguar fans know that the Tom Wilkenshaw Racing cars are much, much different than the ordinary XJS. Also consider that there were only 100 XJRS cars produced. Even the 1994 to 1996 6.0L V12 cars with the 4L80e trans (1 more gear) are not as fast as the XJRS cars are. Nor do they handle as well. TWR really built the 6.0L up, and even though the displacement is the same as the later 6.0L, the engine feels way different. And because Tom Wilkenshaw made his name racing Jaguar XJS's (please don't PM me regarding Tom's history of racing, yes, I know it too), he really knew how to set up the suspension on them. So, again, the XJRS comes from the XJS, but they are way different. \r\nTo the seller, too bad that it didn't fetch the type of money it deserves! It is a beauty!
