The BorgWarner 35 automatic, though robust, is not very refined. \nWorse, the gearing is pretty terrible by today's standards. The engine just screams at highway speeds.\nOther Stag owners have fitted the ZF 4HP-22 four-speed automatic with good results. \nThe very best thing that can be done to a Stag is to remove the very restrictive exhaust manifolds and install a set of headers, available from Tony Hart Racing Services or Rimmer Brothers. A friend here in the Detroit area did that to his car and he says they solved all sorts of problems. The car runs much cooler, much quicker, gets better fuel economy, etc.\nLooking at this car, I am not sure an air filter would even fit with modifying the hood. That could be problematic. Just a bit too wide.\r\n\r\nMeaning that I'm very much drawn to the look of a Stag with the hard top affixed, and am also drawn to the limited-number 1975/76 glass-roofed Jensen Coup\u00e9 (a different variant than the Saloon with its distinctive rear glass). Still the convertible body, but with a fixed roof that, to me, creates much of the openness and attractivess achieved by that Stag removable hard-top.
