The owner was a very prominent and wealthy individual who wanted this car exactly the way it is today with an open pocket book policy. The reason he had to sell it was his wife forced the sale when their 4th child was coming. It should be understood this car should not be compared to a concours, original paint, trailer queen, but rather to a Hotrod cafe racer category. The car looks striking valet parked in front of your favorite restaurant or taking it out on twisties in the countryside. It has a proper masculine look that's just enough to give it an aggressive look that doesn't scream too much. Oh and as for the Fuchs, yes it does have 7 & 8s that look absolutely stunning. There are plenty of cars out there - decide what your budget is, decide what kind of car you want, and see if you can find that level of car within your budget. Also of course decide whether you want a coupe or a Targa, or don't care. Buy the best car you can within that budget and your priorities and don't focus on little stuff if you're shopping for a driver instead of a show car. Rust can get expensive, but fortunately SCs are minimally prone to rust relative to earlier cars. Drivetrains, as noted, can get expensive quickly. Buying the owner(s) is at least as important on a car like this as it is on any other, but I disagree with others on the point of little things suggesting big things. Sometimes owners would rather focus their attention on the big things and then drive the car. I bought mine from a conscienscious PO who had owned the car for 15 years and rebuilt most of it. Nonetheless, it had, and still has, little things - a cracked dash, a piece of torn vinyl in the interior, a passenger door whose latch needs adjustment, etc. I'm slowly whittling away at the little things, but I'd rather focus on important things and maintenance and driving it. I don't know enough about this car to say one way or the other where this falls on the consciencious-owner-history spectrum, but based on my limited experience and what I read about it here, it doesn't throw any red flags for me. I do understand that potential buyers want to know all the major possible unknowns. Sooo I brought-a-trailer with this SC on it to Mayo Performance, one of the most reputable aircooled 911 shops in the country to do a proper compression & leakdown to get hard numbers with photos of each result today. Results came out excellent with ~150lbs across all cylinders and ~10% leakdown across on cylinders. The test was done on a cold engine. Bryan at Mayo took the car for a test drive and did note the engine does have more pep than a stock SC. Cost me $500, but this is money well invested to clear up any assumptions and a clean bill of health. Agree with the others that a tired engine with bad compression/broken headstuds can lead to a path of $$$$. I drove the car home this afternoon and it drove lovely. I'm not usually a Targa fan, but I like the darker red on this one even if it's not a stock color. It's something like the red that old classic Ferraris used to come in: not as dark as Rosso Barchetta and not as bright as Guards Red or Rosso Corso. \r\n\r\nAnd a comment on the tail. It's more like a 2nd series, pre-intercooler 930 Whale Tail with the larger secondary inset grille for extra cooling.
