My car was registered as a '59 but since cars were registered as the year they were sold in those days I thought it was probably a '58. My car had the \"inside plug\" heads with \"hair pin\" valve springs. Other than those details the engine was about the same as the car listed here. My car had the large aluminum brake drums and I would think the Dunlop discs would be an improvement and much easier to service.\r\n\r\nDuring my ownership I experienced a rear end pinion bearing failure that was not too difficult to repair. This car has a much nicer looking differential than the one my car had. I also had to put new brushes in the generator. The carbs and ignition needed nothing. The seats do not offer much lateral support, but the interior is nicely finished. My car sold at auction in Paris a few years ago for a lot more money than when I sold it.\r\n\r\nThe car we have here represents a great deal of time, money, and effort and looks just right to me. Ok, I am joking, this is a very Italian thing, and my old L car does the same. Just to re-iterate how important it is to warm any of these sort of old V12's up properly, I have heard stories of someone who gave one a large rev when cold and sheared the oil drive off. The old oil used in these was often a racing straight 50 grade, because it was the only oil that gave good protection to these motors if they were run hard. I used to be in the camp of 'original is best', but since synthetic oils are so much better now, and available in the heavier weights, I have largely switched to full synthetic on all my old cars, they run better when warming up, and I'm sure they reduce engine wear. I am sure this car is perfectly looked after and has the very best oil available that suits it, but even so, would the new owner 'please' make sure they take the time to warm up the engine properly. These old cars can be pretty cold blooded, and yes, I did notice in the video how careful the driver was to make sure everything was warm before exercising it 'slightly' harder. In truth the whole driveline needs time to warm up properly, not just the engine. I am not sure how many litres of oil this car has, but one of my Italians has 14 litres in the sump. That's a lot of oil, and it doesn't warm up as quick as 4 or 5 litres does. I thought long and hard about buying one of these in the early noughties, I also looked at a GTE, then decided that what I really wanted was a 330 America, same body bigger engine, but they were so thin on the ground with only around 50 made that I never found one for sale at the time. Now of course they are priced very differently. As the whole peanut gallery seems to agree, this is the very best of these type of 250's that I've seen. I bought a 1958 250 GTO in 1973. It had a 283 Chev V8, power glide trans, and a shortened chev rear axle with the Borrani wheels and brakes. Exterior was total original. I was stationed in Tucson at Davis Monthan AFB and got it out on one of the old taxiways one day. Sold it two years later for $1400.
