On the surface, it would seem that this Sportster is just another one like some of the others that have shown up here on BaT. Well, that's certainly not the case as folks will see as we go. This Bike's unique model, options, and general condition sit it apart. If you follow these bikes as they come up, then you know what you\u2019re looking at. if you don\u2019t, then you\u2019re in for a treat because there\u2019s a lot more to it than meets the eye.\r\n\r\nWhat is immediately obvious is the bike's all original condition. Yes, it\u2019s had the exhaust heat tape installed, then removed. But it's exactly as our owner received it 10 years ago, down to the original (date code verified) original Harley Dunlop tires. In discussing the rim and deleted fender, he just informed me that it's exactly how it arrived.\r\n\r\nTo me, the most impressive part of the bike, condition-wise, is that NOTHING jumps out at you. To the point that I overlooked the bent wheel while doing the video and taking all of the pictures. The OVERALL condition, no matter where you look, is so consistent that it presents like the low mileage original bike that it is.\r\n\r\nFinally, you have relatively few owners from New that have enjoyed the bike to this point. The previous owner bought it used from the original owner with relatively few miles on it. And, our current owner having ridden it a mere 535 miles in 10 years. We'll be discussing our current owner's collection and taste as we get more into the auction process, but some of that was covered in the condition inspection video.\r\n\r\nAs folks who follow my auctions already know, you can expect daily posts, lots of picture adding, and timely responses to questions and comments. So, with that, I will recommend that you get a head start and watch the afore mentioned, already included extensive condition inspection. It is full of valuable information; not just in what you see, but in the narration which discusses every aspect of the bike. Unfortunately, I was so fixated on getting all of the narration details right, and all of the background noise of the owner's business going on, that I somehow completely overlooked the wheel issue. Apologies for that oversight, and we're diligently putting together a shop inspection with videos to check and measure the wheel, handlebars, forks, etc. Stay tuned for all of that. \r\n\r\nThat condition walk around video is incredibly thorough as I discuss the bike's history and show every inch of it. I also discuss the recently completed work, and point out what little patina that I can find; it\u2019s the next best thing to being there. The cold start portion is just as useful because you get to hear how healthy the motor sounds and see all of the electronics / features working as honestly as I can present.\r\n\r\nUnlike MOST videos that are quite short overly edited, and frankly unhelpful, mine are the EXACT opposite. These videos are COMPLETELY unedited, start to finish, for the most honest presentation possible, FULL of useful information, and long enough to REALLY give you a sense of what it's all about. If you watched the condition video, you know that he runs a well established restoration shop and is always busy. The coming pictures and videos will show that whatever happened to the wheel, it DID NOT EFFECT the forks, handlebars, or suspension. Additionally, even though only 535 miles have been put on the bike under current ownership, it was over a period of 10 years, demonstrating that wheel and tire are holding air, as it's still on the ORIGINAL tires.\r\n\r\n@Nader, The seat is the original Harley Davidson and in great condition. The weekend is almost at hand. \r\n\r\nThere\u2019s just something special about Fridays, isn't there? Even though we all have to work, it\u2019s almost like a mini birthday that you share with the rest of the country. The sun shines brighter, the air is a little fresher, and everyone is just a little more up beat. How\u2019s that for a nice \u201cdaily affirmation\u201d to get your work day going::\u2014))))))\r\n\r\nWith the weekend almost at hand, I\u2019ll do my best to make sure folks are adequately entertained and informed with the continuation of the promised picture adding. First, let me get to some more info and back story that didn't make it into the listing:\r\n\r\n- The Sportster received a service / inspection at the Harley Davidson dealership last year (invoice to follow).\r\n\r\n- The mileage on the Harley invoice is almost EXACTLY what it reads now. Only 1-2 additional miles added on by yours truly in moving it to shoot the pictures.\r\n\r\n- The listing states, \"The digital odometer indicates 7k miles, less than 1k of which were ridden under current ownership\". In actuality, the odo reads 6,738 with 535 total miles ridden by our owner. That total really dwindled over the 10 years as our owner's interests changed and he had to focus more on running his restoration business. \r\n\r\n@darylpalm, great question. As it was only cosmetic, doesn't lose air, and DOES NOT EFFECT the way the bike drives / rides, our owner rode it as is. He rode it from the PO's home to his on day 1 and realized that was the case. So, for the limited use the Sportster got, it wasn't a priority. And, as you'll see from the Harley invoice, the mileage has barely advanced since last year's service, again demonstrating that he simply doesn't have the time to ride. In fact, you'll see that he had the Sportster picked up and delivered which actually cost MORE than the service itself. Hilariously, the Harley technician put on 5 test miles after the service, more than our owner has in the past couple of years. And, they did not recommend to repair it, or even note it. Hope that helps. \r\n\r\n- As the tires are original, I'll assume that the next caretaker will want to replace them if he/she will be doing some touring. I'll make a few calls to both dealers and indy shops to inquire about tire replacement and rim repair. I'd assume that doing that simultaneously would be quick, easy, and cheap while replacing the tires. I'll share my findings before auction's end so folks can factor that in.\r\n\r\nSo, to get our Friday going, let\u2019s start out by digging into our generous photo album. We\u2019ll begin with that Harley service invoice I mentioned before starting at the bottom, literally, and work our way up. So, check out this morning\u2019s picture batch of the amazingly dry and solid Engine case, and undercarriage. As I mentioned, some folks requested these to see if the motor has ever been apart. As you can see, especially given the mileage, it's as solid and original as the rest of the bike.
