That covers that......\r\n\r\nTHE BAD: VW aficionado\u2019s will tell me how the bumpers should be white, the decorative trim around the windows is missing, the seat and interior floor materials are not original, the steering wheel isn\u2019t original, the original wheels are missing, it\u2019s lowered, etc....... We get that. \r\n\r\nBUT!\r\nTHE GOOD: Literally no expense was spared in the restoration of this \u201869 Bay Window. This bus is slab side straight and not a spec of rust is detectable anywhere (of course all bidders should conduct there own inspections because....) . Every mechanical aspect has been brought back to the highest standard that includes a new, not just rebuilt 1600 engine. She starts, runs and drives like a dream. VERY FEW \u201869\u2019s are ever restored to this standard. \r\n\r\nI\u2019ll chime in later to answer any and all questions to the best of my ability. I really like the bus, and it is obvious that a big pile of time, effort and resources were laid out for the build, and it isn't really a restoration. I suppose resto-custom would be the appropriate term. That isn't a bad thing.\r\n\r\nWith the money spent, the only misses I see are the lack of armrests that double as ductwork on the front door panels, the missing padded cap over the front seat bulkhead, a kick panel to cover the base of the rear seat, and that goofy $4 paper air filter.\r\n\r\nA nice, original fan shroud (with its built in coil mount and proper internal cooling air vanes) and a stock air cleaner would do that engine much justice. It will be OK without them, and would be much better with them. Especially if the bus is driven for more than just cruise nights.\r\n\r\nLooks like the front is lowered with drop spindles only, as I cannot see any beam adjusters in the photos. but it also looks to have been narrowed slightly. Can you share the front suspension specs with us?\r\n\r\nFor the lowering worry warts, no major mods have been made to the bus, with a few tools and a stock front end to bolt in, this one could be stock in a weekend. No big deal.\r\n\r\nNice bus, decent photos, and a good overall presentation. So, there really isn\u2019t any detectable rust on this bus. The weep holes are just showing minor discoloration where water has dripped after washing. Bondo was not used to hide or repair any panels but specifically to skim coat in order to keep this bus laser straight. There aren\u2019t any rubbing issues that I saw but I\u2019ll put this bus back up on my lift and look again. I\u2019ll shoot additional pictures if you like.
