Even if the originals are not useable repros are readily available. Unless you are building a Cal-Looker, it just doesn't look right and smells of cutting corners. The very cheap, aftermarket bumpers with the ugly rubber grommets between the blades and the over-rider bars will rust in about 12 months, depending on where you live. Again, if originals can't be re-chromed there are outlets for high quality repro bumpers...but at about 5X's the expense. Some have already got started at what a disaster the engine compartment is, mechanically and cosmetically. \n\nIt's possibly not fair to judge the car only from these photos but many more, and fairly obvious, details scream of a fast, very low budget \"resto\" where corners were extensively cut. In the end the bidding will speak for itself, but for the educated vintage VW fan, this car is in no way in the $10K+ category. Drove it 700 miles to my parents that first summer break ('74), and my dad took one look and said \"You need a better car, let's go look at one a guy I work with is selling.\" It was a '67 Beetle w/ only 30k miles on it. I barely knew what a VW was about, and my dad knew even less, but we bought it for $700. Drove it back to college, and have had a succession of VWs and 356s ever since. I got in two head-on collisions in that '67, and it was totaled. Not until later did I realize the '67 would be widely considered the \"sweet spot\" of the Beetle lineage. Both front and back have the same issue. The rear is actually more difficult to deal with given the structure of the bumper assembly.
