The 1973 is a much better car than my 1974 was. The bumper over riders are better, and the engine is less choked with smog equipment. This is a very nice Spitfire with thoughtful upgrades. The interior is nice, especially the dash and the extra volt Gauge is a good addition. In my 1972 GT6 That I restored in 2019 and still own, I have an oil pressure gauge, and volt gauge in the same location. The paint looks like good, color sanding would help the luster out. New rear bumpers are available through SPITBITS in Northern California, I purchased one for my GT 6 . They are stainless not chrome. Tan door panels may tie the interior together better. But these are just icing on the cake suggestions? The U in the vin number indicates it was made in Belgium. I would believe the dual SU\u2019 original as it made it before the tighter EPA requirements that forced a single Zenith Stromberg and an EGR valve and charcoal canister. I tried to find the exact date Triumph started the 1500 for the US market but could not. The car shows dual brake set up for rear and front braking systems but the PDWA is missing and an aluminum plate secured the two lines. The PDWA was a safety feature tgat lite up the red light a the dash if one of the lines failed or was leaking its pressure related. It has an electrical connection at the rear. If the wire is still there a new PDWA is about $300 and as the two lines are there could easily be installed to return to original. The fact it\u2019s a very early 1500 when the UK was still with the mark IV. Just pull up any other Spitfire auction and you will see the U suffix. UO would indicate NA Market with overdrive and UC would be California spec (1975 on).\r\n\r\nThis applied to the 1972 Mk IV's as well (I've had mine since 1984 with a U suffix). My Mk IV is a factory single Stromberg car and so was this one when new. When my company, Restoration Station , acquired this car from the original owners family in 2019 it had been in a dry attached garage for 35 years. The owner bought it new and was a member of a North Texas British Sports car club. He passed away in the mid 80s. The mileage is accurate. We stripped the old paint, all the trim and there was no damage or corrosion any where. The finish paint was done by a professional paint shop that does our show cars. Its DuPont base coat clear coat done in the original color. 5 coats of clear with hardner. It was polished using the 3M three stage polishing method after curing for 3 months in 2022. Sansho, the current owner seller, has improved this classic antique beyond what our shop is capable of. We are commercial. He is patient and detailed. In Texas, when you register and title a car, if you don't have the prior title (in this case they had the original bill of sale), you have to buy a bond, in the event someone else comes forward and claims the car. The bond is for 3 years, and this one expired in March of this year. The next Texas title would print without the \"Bonded\" notation. I was pleased at how just 1.5\" narrower makes it easier to get in/out of the car, plus generally a little more roomy for the legs. I didn't notice it making the steering more difficult, due to the narrower size. A few thoughts: \r\n\r\nI like that it\u2019s an early 1500, with early badging, small bumper guards, and MK IV seats. It\u2019s essentially a MK IV with a 1500 engine (with dual SU carbs).\r\n\r\nI like the Maniflow sport exhaust: It really improves the sound, lowering the tone, almost more like an MGB. To my ears, it\u2019s more British now. \r\n\r\nIt\u2019s lineage. If you\u2019re looking at most any car since the advent of long VINs in the early 1980\u2019s, you may be lucky to get a Carfax showing 8 previous owners and sometimes little more information. Here, we have a 51 year old car, where the owner belonged to a North Texas British car club (probably took better care of the car), it sat for 35 years, and there\u2019s been two owners since, with much detail in two BaT auctions on restoration efforts.
