A stick may be more fun but it may have no performance advantage compared to an automatic if the shift algorithm (valve body in older ones) is tuned to complement the turbo. When floored, my 740 turbo slammed upshifts just short of the red line, like RIGHT NOW, putting the engine right back into the fat part of the torque curve. Never had any driveline issues, either. I don't think this was typical of factory-stock, guessing a few things were at the limit of their production tolerances and just happened to work out this way. Sort of an anti-lemon. Perhaps I can comment on the photos around the windshield to clear up any confusion. The original 1984 glass was damaged on 1/27/18 on the Superstition freeway (rock chip). The chip spread quickly. When the installer put a new style (91-93) W/S in on 2/3/18 I took photos and cleaned everything up. The yuck you see in the photos is a combo of old butyl, clear silicone apparently to hold the old molding down, and desert dust. There is zero rust or rot, anywhere. All that was removed and urethane was used to install the new glass. The old school moldings were wider and taller - lots of wind noise. Still have it in my garage if one wants to find clips and go backwards.\r\nHaving to replace the original glass was a sock in the gut. The new W/S, however, is clear as a bell (no pitting) and wind noise at freeway speeds is nil. Wish I would have done this in 2003 : ) \r\n\r\n@CKKurtz LOL! I did a swap in a Jeep Comanche rally truck and now it seemed easy. I do have an M46 4 speed O/D, pedal kit, drive shaft, etc available to the initiated buyer that can be negotiated post sale. The insulation practically turns to dust causing plenty of shorts. The worst job I ever did on a 240 was the heater core. To me these 240 wagons are the best. I have a '91 745 wagon now and feel they will carry the same status as the 240 as they start dying off. IIRC, pre-87 cars with speedo cables had one design, 87-89 cars got a new CC \"computer\" that took a signal from the fancy new electric speedo, 90-93 cars got a refined version of the same.\n\nThe late windshield is a better design for sealing, but yeah, the earlier trim extends out a bit farther. It can look a little funny but there's no rot that I see. The place to look for rot is between the windshield and the antenna and at the antenna's base.\n\nThe turbos are fine with the automatics. It actually suits them pretty well as you're never really off boost. The throws on an m46 are so long and slow there's no way to carry boost through a shift unless you're really beating on the thing. Now the NA cars...very different story. You really need the stick shift to have any fun. Conversion is straight forward if you're so inclined. \n\nThe AC. Yeah even on the late build 240s they just weren't ever very good. The got it right for the 7/9s, but the 240s are an uphill battle, especially the wagons. That's just a lot of cubic feet to try to cool on a sunny day.\n\nMight be nice to see better pictures of front vs rear seats to see how closely the fabrics match, but that's a pretty minor nit to pick. Love that it still has its tape player. Let me know if you need any Dead tapes. I haven't yet been able to bring myself to chuck them, though my cassette days are long over :)\n\nGreat looking car. Adding a pyrometer to the exhaust for one just to make sure that 40 to 60 second cool down is enough. I have the one I took off of my 83 that was rear ended way back when (even kept the correct housing panel piece to put in place of the bank in the instrument panel under the clock. Also, would add a remote oil filter to the oil line going into the turbo housing. I did it to my '83 after replacing the fried turbo that it had when I bought it with a brand new turbo and its bearings also ended up wreaked. The guy that sold me the turbo did rebuild it at no charge because he was afraid that he had neglected to bake out the down pipe when I originally brought the pipe into his shop. Yes, I did all of the work myself R and Ring the turbo twice which is why I would be so cautious. \r\n\r\nThe only other couple of things, replace the steering wheel with the smaller turbo steering wheel that I happen to have and I would go for the silver colored wheels instead of the black chrome.
