It does the \"flare\" between 3rd and 4th. We took it to a local Mini specialist (Jet Motors) and after a test drive they said that this was fairly typical of the autos and though very annoying, not damaging. It is annoying. We can avoid the flair by accelerating very slooooooowly, which is also annoying. The 1.3l is also a bit, shall we say, interesting on the highway. Since automatic transmission parts are hard to come by, we tend to just avoid the highway, though it will run at 60+mph just fine. Ours has a P which is nice.\r\n\r\nI wonder if this one has a newer transmission? Any idea if this car's autobox is original? \r\n\r\nNot that it matters, the autos are becoming somewhat rare now. Like I6 Mustangs, they may have made a crap ton of them but many (most?) got a V8 swap. And like Mayjer said earlier, if the auto craps out, do a manual swap. This is what has been happening more and more over the past 15-20 years. There are some issues with seeing around other cars but that's more a function of the car being the smallest thing on the road than that of driving from the right side. Plus, when people talk to you at stop lights, it makes it a lot easier to talk to them and answer questions. \r\n\r\nThe biggest adjustment we had to make is that the steering wheel isn't centered in front of you. It's a good 3 inches to the left of center of the driver seat, though we have 90's seats which are bigger, more padded and have head rests/restraints, that could be part of it.
