I have a slightly earlier Porsche Cayenne Turbo. I had to replace the modules that control the entire dashboard once and am seeing the same problems starting up yet again. I have been told the problem is a pair of design defects. The first is that the Cayenne sunroofs tend to leak. When the sunroof leaks, the water is not visible, but runs down the A-pillar into the driver side footwell, which is perilously close to sensitive electronics. \n\nThe more serious problem is that the air vents at the base of the windshield get clogged with debris, particularly deteriorating leaves. It is all but impossible for an owner to get access to this area to clean the drains so doing so is a normal part of the dealer service regimen. Anyone who has one the these cars should make sure this is checked when their cars are serviced. \n\nHowever, if not caught in time, the drains below these vents gets blocked and the water is directed to the firewall and can fry the electronic modules in the driver's side footwell and floor area. My dealer has told me that he has seen this on several of the earlier Cayennes. Despite the problems I still have the car.\n\nI wonder whether any other past or present Cayenne owners (or Porsche mechanics) who are BAT subscribers have experienced either of these problems or found solutions. \n\nBy the way, I really like the graphics on this car. I was the seller of the 1985 Paris Dakar 959 that was bought at RM. I sold the car after owning it for almost two decades. When I saw that several people were building replicas or reconstructing 'bitsa\" cars, I finally decided that my car needed a new keeper who would use or show it more often than I was. Coincidentally, I took the truck into the shop on a rainy day, so it was very apparent what the issue was (loose door seal) and the problem was quickly resolved. \r\n\r\nA local graphics/wrap company and I worked together to design the wrap taking inspiration from your previously owned car and a Cayenne in Canada. The wrap begins approximately at the door handle level and works its way down. The top half of the car is the original paint and the execution is without flaw. So to most it would just look like Rothmans Porsche. \r\nI drive around the streets in my 1987 Escort 944 Turbo Cup with its Full Rothmans Livery and only get thumbs up. I would love this Cayenne to tow my car around when I have to do a long haul. \r\nRothmans is such an iconic 1980s livery for Porsche and this Cayenne S looks really nice. I'm a middle aged guy who has been a fan of motor racing my entire life. Most of the formative years were when racing was cigarette sponsored. Winston Cup, Camel GT, Marlboro McLaren, etc etc etc. I raced in the camel GT series myself, with my dad and my brother. I have Marlboro and Camel stuff in my own memorabilia collection. I also found it quite interesting to watch as the cigarette ad laws changed. If I recall correctly, it first became clear that in certain countries F1 teams couldn't run cigarette livery. So, companies would wash over their logos. The Camel was done as a black shadow shape, Marlboro was done as a series of black stripes (at first) on the red & white background. Soon after, Marlboro was shown as the white triangle on the red background with no black. At this point, rules were different from country to country. Then came the international rules. Magazines couldn't even legally show photos of F1 cars from countries that still allowed tobacco sponsorship. Marlboro went to a white rectangle on a bright red background. And eventually, when Marlboro $$ left McLaren and went to Ferrari, the Ferrari GP cars went from the traditional Italian blood red, to the Marlboro bright red. During all of this, Benson & Hedges cigarettes developed the coolest and most creative (IMHO) version of their false logo: Buzzin' Hornets. Also, towards the end of cig sponsorship, British American Tobacco ran Jacques Villeneuve in their dual liveried car. So anyhow, I'm tired of typing - - the only reason I bought this up in the first place, is because I think I have some basic understanding of cigarette sponsorship in racing.
