I sure wish the effort that went into those unfortunate openings in the hood went instead to a dash cover, a 68 DeLuxe dash with a real Saab tach and real 68 seats with orig trim and head restraints. \r\nI never experienced overheating except a couple times on super hot days on the road having to turn the heater on high to dump heat and get the temp needle down a little. No biggie. For those who aren't so jaded this looks to be a really good way to experience the sporty pureness of the 96. May I suggest whatever Coker Tire sells similar to Michelein X or XZX in 165 width (no more) plus Koni equivalent shocks. It will dance with you at speed on curvy roads. Add some mild bumps for even more flavor. Find a dirt road and do ebrake turns. The restoration project was about three years plus one car. I had originally attempted to put a modern air conditioning unit in the system in order to do that the old heating box had to come out.\r\nI would agree with you that the original heater box fantastic and serve multiple functions. But it was busted out and nearly impossible to find a good functioning one. Since the air conditioning upgrade did not work we scrap that but we left the updated alternator it\u2019s pulling somewhere around 120 150. When we realize that the air-conditioning system was not going to work I pull the alternator for another project. The vents cut into the hood is a common upgrade my understanding. Marc Saab v 4 parts in Oregon sells a custom kit for him self. He put them on the side of the hood not nearly as functional. Originally the condenser was on top of the engine because of the limited space in the front. These look cool and they do provide some function. Since the fan didn\u2019t really cool the temperature of the engine we actually put in an automatic fan with a temperature setting. Guaranteed to cool the engine anytime of the year. \r\nThanks for your observations and all your great comments really appreciate it. James and his partner have spared no time and expense to make this a stellar 96. No, it\u2019s not stock, and some of the upgrades, as noted below, may not be to your liking, but they were well thought out, and come together to make a fantastic vehicle. I saw a few other classic cars while there, and could see the same level of care applied to restoring all of them. I have a \u201969 96 that is pretty bone stock, plus a \u201971 Sonett III, so I have a pretty good idea of what they should feel like. The 96 offered here is tight, smooth, quiet, and pulls with some nice power. We had some fun driving each other's cars, and taking some pics of the \"siblings,\" both in Silver Sand.
