Truck has a lot of positives, & just the short-bed 4X4 is different. Hoods a little jacked, but that might have to do with the front hinging versus the original rear hinging? It has held up well, showing some surface rust on undercarriage components and the carriage bolts attaching the running boards. It's spent time here in Southern California which has helped in maintaining its condition. The body is in good shape with no dents noticed. Paint appears to be single stage showing a bit of oxidation in some areas that should buff out with a detailing, it has a smooth finish without orange peel. The bed cover paint apparently has clear coat that is showing some distress. The engine bay and interior are in excellent shape. The main fuel tank is on the driver side. The tank in the truck bed is secondary and for extended range. \r\n\r\nThere are some items i noticed that could use attention. It hasn't been driven much in recent years and is in need of tuning. This truck does have power steering (and it's a good stout box, btw). The steering linkage, known as the inverted-Y, or Haltenberger linkage, was used on 76-77 F-150 4x4s. The rear axle is a 9\" with the HD housing so I'm guessing it's from a '77 F150. The front axle is a Dana 44. I'm guessing it's the frame from the same vintage truck but I can't tell for sure. The transfer case is a NP205 - bulletproof. That said, I don\u2019t buy the notion that \u201cmodding\u201d (dare I say, restomodding?) is bad for an old pick-up, because many of them are acquired with a stuck engine from having rusted out in a field somewhere, and, the owner decides to upgrade it. Many of these would be scrap metal (or still rusting in a field) of someone did not come along and save them. There is a dealer who goes to Canada to get old pick-ups to auction, and the average price is in the $4-5K range, but they are barely rolling, and need substantial work. \u201cOriginal\u201d for these trucks is not practical (if not impossible), but the revived finished product can be very nice. I have a Ghia that is modified, and I think (and I judge by the oohs and aahs from those who see it) that the car has been vastly improved upon from original\u2014but not by me, as I bought it that way (not salmon or matte black, color, but not original). I say that it is the sports car that VW should have created back then. When I bought mine, I had liked 356\u2019s, but I was not going to outlay that kind of money.\r\nI was recently thinking of selling it, looking for a change (more power), and spoke with a dealer who uses BaT. That conversation was so discouraging (negative outlook on price) that I decided to keep it instead. It's not just that there's more money in the Chevy, no doubt there (is if for no other reason it's a much more recent build I would say.) This one probably has a higher reserve than the 55, but it also likely is more realistic and supports the set reserve better than the reserve on the 55. But my point really was more to my earlier statement that when it comes to value, as with any vehicle/vintage, it depends more on each particular representation thereof. While the Chevy is certainly a \"resto-mod\" the Ford is just modified/custom to the kinks of the guy who built it, and the mods themselves aren't really that well done even given the age.
