Four years ago I came across a Black '55 rougher than this car. I was walking away but at the last minute asked seller to see it with top off, he hesitated as in eight years ownership he never pulled it off. It was sealed tight, the rubber separated leaving pieces on the deck and tearing seals on the top. At that moment it was a whole different car! bought it on the spot. Built a dolly for the hardtop and got a tonneau made and have never had the top back on. In addition to all the snaps on the stainless trim my tonneau has one snap on the passenger door near the front corner to keep fabric from flapping. Set up here is puzzling. I hope the buyer brings it to So Cal and joins the Earlybirds. I would love to see it at our meets. Any club would love to welcome such an original well cared for car in this rare color. An interested party brought the car to sell in Washington State in 2011 (but never transferred title) where I purchased it at a consignment shop and I have kept it garaged the entire time (I am the third owner). \r\n\r\nThe point is that this is basically an unrestored, rust free, California car which resided there for 55 years (documented to 50 years if you believe the window stickers). This one appears to be rust free and I wouldn't be worried about some surface rust underneath. A underneath shot of the body supports would help but from what I see this one is exceptional clean. Since it came with a radio it would have had a single antenna on the front fender. This means at some point that hole was filled and both rear fenders would have been drilled for those antenna. Repainting at least the front fender area would have been done, so yes it could be an issue with some people. I'm not sure what you want in a car but this one looks like just maintaining it's originality would be the best way. Ford did not want any possible damage in transit. They were placed in the trunk with instructions and a template for the dealer to drill the hole and install on the right front fender. The problem was that a low level mechanic was usually the guy who got the task to install the antenna. Sometimes their men did not read the instructions and this is why we find the antenna holes some what out of place on the front fender. This installation is very unique and took some ingenuity to get the base to conform to the curve of the fender top. In CTCI competition it would be an automatic deduction whereas the right front fender variation is acceptable within reason.
