Plan to do a complete brake job in the immediate future. Engine and carb swap look good. Interior is also not bad except those crap aftermarket front seats. This T2 bus is no garage queen but it could be a worthy candidate for buying and putting some money into. In fact, this looks like a very good solid bus to hop in and drive, and fix the little things over time. \r\n\r\nI would not drive it in the salt belt in the winter, but other than that it will be fine.\r\n\r\nThose \"crap aftermarket front seats\" appear to be factory Vanagon units. They slide right in, are more comfy than stock, and can be reupholstered to match the stock interior.\r\n\r\nAlso, it does not even have heat exchangers. Have you owned one? Sounds like you haven't... These things rust out very easily. I had one and spent a lot of time cleaning up the underside. Inner wheel wells, cross beams in the corners, pans are all subject to serious rust. And body work (rust removal, metal replacement and welding) is where these buses get expensive to restore. Everything else is just Volkswagen cheap, except some of the Westfalia camper interior pieces. This one still has areas of undercoating, areas where it has pealed off, and areas the have none left and are rusting. Sheet metal on the bottom is thin (go over a bump on a road and listen to the sound of the bus rattle like a can). Corey, these buses are worth money - when they are original or restored to original condition. Your defense of the interior having \"vanagon seats\" like it is a bonus, just shows that we are looking at this bus from very different points of view.\nPS You are right, instead of heat exchangers which on this bus are long, the engine has rusty headers. I drove my 70 camper all over the Northwest and Canada over the course of eight years. It had surface rust like this bus, and it never changed in severity during that time. It is still on the road with the next owner. No issues. And I installed an NOS ATE master cylinder under there. Looks just like this one. If you're going to jettison the factory FI setup (still working well on my '79 Westy), the dual Webers are definitely the way to go! The counterweighted crank is a nice upgrade as well, making for smoother running. \n\nThere's definitely some rust to stay on top of, but nothing that looks too troublesome to my eye. The biggest issue I see is the filler in the lower nose, but that's certainly not unusual in these rigs, and nothing that can't be remedied if so desired.
