Countless trips to Kamloops over the years and I sure never saw a SM! Perhaps the most exotic thing I knew of was Fred Snipes with his Fiat 850 Spyder - he was legendary in that little thing... It was 60km to Kamloops on the worst creek fording, switchback traversing, mud bogging \u201croad\u201d you could imagine - pretty typical of the era/area actually. We could make the trip (one way) in about 4+ hrs in the Land Rover. The engine was stuck and the floors were full of water but it WAS MY VERY OWN CAR! We dragged it to my high school shop class in Victoria, BC, Canada where I took the engine apart and got it all going again. I used it for years; and, MIRACULOUSLY my brother still daily drives it to this day in Santa Barbara, California. If you ever see a \u2018capucine\u2019 (orange!) colored early D, it\u2019s surely John.\r\n\r\nI've had numerous SM's over the past 30 years... starting with a car that was similar to this one. I daily drive a white '72 now and I love jumping into it each and every day. There really is nothing like having 'that sound' and 'that ride' together. As Citroen said when the car was marketed here: 'The Perfect Blend of Citroen Engineering and Maserati Performance'. This car has that same feeling and is a joy to drive. The engine starts right up, the 5 speed is silky like all good SM's, and the interior is just a marvel to both sit in, and gaze at. The original black leather is exactly how you'd like a 50 year old club chair to be. \r\n\r\nFrankly there are many more 'rough' SM's out there than examples that were always loved. The cars were orphans here in the States when they were almost new so many just never got the maintenance they required. This car was in the same original family for decades and was just parked in their warehouse for much of that time. It was always 'part of the family' and only sold when the owner I bought it from had heard about it and came knocking. This PO had seen a brand new gold SM in Kamloops in 1973 go by him; and since that day had always wanted one. Bizarrely, this SM is probably the same car he saw way back then!\r\n\r\nHe told me another story about the car... seems he wanted a spare ignition key so went to the local small locksmith in Kamloops. He showed the key to the elderly guy behind the desk who said, \"Is this for Mr. Conti's Citroen?\" \r\n\r\nThe PO was startled, \"A matter a fact yes, how'd you know?\" \r\n\r\n\"Well Mr Conti came in here decades ago looking to have a spare key made up and I had to order a minimum of 5 key blanks from the Citroen dealer in Vancouver --- he took one, now you've taken the second but I still have 3 left!\" \r\n\r\nSo, if there's anyone needing a spare key for their SM we know where you can find one. ; > )\r\n\r\nThis SM has all the goodies one wants with an SM: the gorgeous glass-covered swiveling front end--that I've heard multiple times recently cost about $10k to get all the parts, if you can find them...), 5 speed, chains and valves done, working AC, gorgeous original leather interior, and brand new Glasurit paint (Glasurit is the company who had the exact 'card' for this SM's original paint color and, of course, is one of the most expensive paints there is!) --done to a very high quality. \r\n\r\nI truly hope she goes to a good new home.
