But first I would like to thank BAT for their plus service offering. I had the car photographed by one of their service providers and the whole experience was a breeze. Very useful service especially if you don\u2019t have access to high quality digital cameras and good software, or time to do it all yourself.\r\n\r\nSecond, I would like to say that I want to ensure the description is as accurate as possible and also that I personally hold a pretty high standard for evaluating cars, and I therefore tend to be pretty discerning. So I will identify all the faults and questionable items in thorough detail.\r\n \r\nA few general comments and then some specific items.\r\n\r\nNow, some may ask how the car feels and drives. Well, in general it does feel special in the sense that all late 80s/early 90s BMWs and Alpinas feel special for a driver. Having extensively driven E24s, E28s, E30s, E34s, E36s, E39s, and E46s, the best way I can describe this particular car is like an extra long E39 540i with a revvy V12. The V12 is smooth, but it is not that torquey down low as one might expect from newer motors. It is a little peaky - I guess that\u2019s what the Alpina cam and higher compression tended to do. Especially compared to the E39 M5, it doesn\u2019t have the grunt \u2013 but it\u2019s more sewing machine smooth. It feels extraordinarily planted for a car of this era, which I would put down to the suspension tuning, wheels, and tires. To that end it feels close to like my E39 M5 with Dinan springs and Konis up to about 7/10ths driving. It comes alive in the medium speed corners, and car is enjoyed in smooth higher speed jaunts. But it\u2019s ultimate forte is the highway - it loves to gallop (3000rpm or so at around 90 mph+). It\u2019s just kind of built with long legs for that kind of autobahn blasting.\r\n\r\nWhen I got the car it was basically in need of every possible E32 V12 foible. It had great bones, but the car needed quite a number of rubber and plastic related components. And unfortunately with a V12 it basically means more parts and more complexity than your typical 80s BMW. My friend and I went through this car thoroughly. It\u2019s gone through an incredible amount of work, but as we know with old carts it does have a few needs and minor sorting items (described below). Also, the paint job is acceptable standards, but not Monterey concours quality as the horizontal surfaces have a little more orange peel than I would have liked. It also doesn\u2019t appear to be as deep as I\u2019d like \u2013 but that\u2019s likely due to the metallic flakes. It\u2019s about on par with \u2018modern\u2019 BMW paint jobs on let\u2019s say Minis, 1s and 2 series, which is to say acceptable but not exceptional. I just realized we didn\u2019t do paint depth measurements during the photoshoot but i will add those later during the auction.\r\n \r\nAlpina did play around with the transmission control unit to firm up the shifts. So it may feel a little bit firmer in particular compared to modern 8-speed ZF transmissions. Remember, you\u2019re dealing with 80s technology here, so its a bit firmer, and slow to downshift unless you hit the kickdown button. Also you can tell it was geared for highway cruising as its not very snappy off the line (I think 1st gear is good to 50 mph, if memory serves me right).\r\n \r\nWe\u2019ve gone through the car as far as I can tell we\u2019ve replaced almost every rubber part and hose on it. And that is no simple feat in a E32 V12. It has no leaks that I can notice \u2013 doesn\u2019t leave drops on the ground, etc. And major M70 problems have been addressed, such as the alternator to battery jumper post wire that cracks its insulation and can short out. There are numerous well known E32 V12 items documented on various enthusiast websites, and we\u2019ve basically addressed a ton of these. So this is about as turnkey as you can get.\r\n \r\nHaving said that a few items that were missed in the description:\r\n\u00b7 Exhaust mounts were done.\r\n\u00b7 Heater core replaced.\r\n\u00b7 Rear power seats work (you can see the recline in photos, as well as rear headrests)\r\n\u00b7 Interior lights work, except the couple ones noted below.\r\n\u00b7 Heated seats front and rear work.\r\n\u00b7 Memory seats work.\r\n\u00b7 All power functions on seats work.\r\n\u00b7 Front seats are the sport seats from BMW.\r\n\u00b7 There is no rust on the bottom of the doors or trunk, no water leakage into the trunk. This is a key positive for this car and known E32 issue. \r\n\u00b7 The infrared keyless entry system works flawlessly.\r\n\u00b7 New battery and new starter.\r\n\u00b7 Full tool kit!\r\n\u00b7 The spare tire is the original Pirelli P600. Date code 1988. It\u2019s NLA, so if someone wants to recover it you\u2019d probably need a specialty leather shop.\r\n\u00b7 I have a box of old parts/spare parts including the old steering box, the alternator air cooling duct, and a few other minor bits. It will go with the car. It also comes with clear front indicators and the side marker lights in the fenders. \r\n\u00b7 The stereo works. It seems it was wired at some point for speakers or subs in the back, but that\u2019s been removed. CD changer doesn\u2019t work to my knowledge. I\u2019m not big into stereos, but happy I can plug my iphone in using the usb connector and listen to some music.\r\n\u00b7 Some additional prophylactic items that one may consider doing: front shocks at some point \u2013 they\u2019re acceptable but probably may not last much longer. Rear shocks are ok, don\u2019t leak. Perhaps new fuel pumps, and perhaps the PS pump (it\u2019s the only item left not replaced in the PS/hydraulic system, and they\u2019re not known to last too long.)\r\n \r\nDisclosed issues on the car, in addition to what\u2019s noted in the ad copy:\r\n\u00b7 I had a replacement jumper point plastic cap in the engine bay that came off recently.\r\n\u00b7 The OBC buttons light bulb is out, and the light for the sunvisors don\u2019t come on (I\u2019m guessing it\u2019s the bulbs, but haven\u2019t gotten to them).\r\n\u00b7 I noted in the photos the minor dents/scrapes/paint imperfections, they\u2019re visible with finger points.\r\n\u00b7 The intensive wash supply hose is old and hard, and not connected to the pump. I simply didn\u2019t get around to buying hose and fixing it.\r\n\u00b7 The passenger side glove box shocks that were noted are dead, and NLA \u2013 so it\u2019s finicky to get open and squeaks on its hinges. \r\n\u00b7 Some exterior trim parts are NLA (like the chrome trim around all the windows going from front to back), and a touch faded, typical for 30 year old car. I replaced what i could that was available, as shown in records.\r\n \r\n \r\nI also have a spreadsheet where I kept track of all the work done on to the car.\r\n \r\nCar is available for test drivers and PPIs, and I will make reasonable attempt to accommodate schedules. It is located in Middletown, New Jersey. Being full time in NYC for work means weekends are far better should anyone want to see it.
