But that is *way* too broad a generalization without those caveats. The last Ferrari to win LeMans outright, the TR, had a solid axle. My Triumph GT6 with its Herald-derived front suspension and swing axle IRS could turn inside any other car of its day, but in a corner it never could decide whether it wanted to oversteer or under steer. But somehow MB figured out how to do even a swing axle right, and their Silver Arrows did pretty well. Sir Sterling drove the swing axle 722 SLR to the greatest single race victory in motor racing history in the 1955 Mile Miglia.
