Graveyard Carz rebuilt a totaled Challenger or Cuda if I remember right and it came out flawless and you'd never suspect any accident damage. The burnt F40 is being restored by Ferrari I believe? So it \"should\" turn out better than it was before the fire. The same goes with the Mclaren that Mr. Bean famously crashed twice. I'm not sure if any of these three cars had \"salvage\" titles but defintely some pretty bad damage that was fixed. If this car's salvaged title was the result of a minor accident (but at the time costly to fix based on the cars value at the time) and was fixed correctly, I don't think it should hold it back that much. But i think that's the major concern, was the damage fixed correctly? Or was it like that F40 Gas Monkey did and is the only known F40 to have depreciated over time... The three cars listed above get around the damage/salvage title aspect by being documented and restored/fixed correctly. Hopefully this beautiful car gets back on the road and the damage was fixed correctly and/or will be fixed soon! It is believed he drove it sparingly in its early years before parking the car in 1986/87 (last registration). The car remained parked even after Mr. Boddie\u2019s passing in 2012. His daughter recounted; I remember there was damage to the door and rocker panel and my father received an insurance check, then he had it repaired on his own. \n\nIt is evident after removing the inner door panels that both doors are original with stamped body numbers and original glass. The driver door shows evidence of a dent pull towards the bottom center and we believe the driver side rocker panel was re-skinned. \n\nAfter an extensive inspection, this is the extent of any repair evidence we see. There appears to be no damage to the frame or body otherwise. Of note and as stated in the listing the 330 retains its original doors, hood, and trunk floor all displaying the PininFarina stamped number. \n\nAs always, we encourage bidders to contact us via the \u201ccontact seller\u201d button for any additional questions or to set up an in-person inspection. The suspension will have to be looked at, and the Konis rebuilt ( it appears to have Konis). What? $20,000 in parts and outside contracting? Your labor, skin and blood. Less (money and blood) if you have space and your own lift. Don't forget to rebuild the Borranis, and a set of period Coker Michelins. Lots of cleaning, hand scrubbing and steam. From the pictures, it looks pretty good. \r\nThe elephant in the room: Why did it get parked...?\r\nConsidering the salvage title, what will make this attractive is the price paid to start with. \r\nIf the engine is in good shape (a leak down test would go a long way to tightening up the cost of getting this Ferrari back on the road. 64K km is not that much if the oil was regularly changed, but the storage time and the cylinder walls/rings???), then perhaps the big cost will be the cosmetics; paint and interior. This car is a survivor with some tarnish to its title, but back in the day when this car was damaged, it\u2019s value was nowhere near what it is today, thus the salvage title to account for the damage vs. value of the car at the time. If repaired correctly, not much of a big deal, and as someone else said, many Ferrari\u2019s or Cobras for that matter, were wrecked and repaired and that\u2019s part of the history. With the salvage title and non-op condition, requiring an unknown investment at this point to get it running, the price this car sells for should take all of this into account. With all of this said, too many of these cars are not driven anymore due to the high value and possibility of being in an accident and also some cars are restored to trailer queen status that there is concern about damage from just driving the car. I love this car just the way it is presented. It\u2019s been cleaned up but has some great patina. I would just get it road ready and mechanically sound and just drive it like it is meant to be driven. While I don't have the time to use mine quite as much as @Andy_M1 or @Mike_Kerns, I have driven it hundreds of miles without incident to high end shows with the trunk packed, won an award, hopped in and drove home. It has also been a competent performer on track days with some of the local clubs, and at least one FCA National meet. Having owned over 30 years,the sound is still intoxicating running up to redline under a nearby bridge. The sound and smell of the car hot, for me, is the essence of why these machines are so unique and enjoyable (vs some of the tech marvel electric cars of today).\r\nThese cars are quite simple to work on-a couple years ago I rebuilt the entire rear suspension with new bushings, sent the shocks to Koni in Louisville (they rebuild at a very reasonable price, come back looking like 1968 new) etc. Writing that reminds me of a bunch of threads over the years about \"why do Ferraris come with tool kits because Ferrari owners don't know how to use the tools.......\". The motors just have double the usual pieces.\r\n\r\nThis car is a very early example which is not an issue-there were few changes until near the end of the run with low 11xxx serial numbers.\r\nFYI only not relevant to value, the door panels and carpets look to have been replaced at some point, the front air dam is gone, a couple trim pieces missing on the top front of the doors, and the straight spinners typically go with the original mag wheels (curved typically with the wires). It looks to me like those are the original Cerrutti exhaust tips-probably cut off the original system and rewelded onto a newer system-Ansa never came on these cars new. These tips are hard to get, if they are originals, don't throw them away! @scheherazade the overflow tank in front of the radiator is there, and the horn compressor is in the usual place, I think they just moved the trumpets. I don't believe it was necessary to move the trumpets for the olio cooler on later cars, but I am not betting.\r\n\r\n@DFSM2005 Sorry if I did, but have I missed the answer on 1 why parked/engine running at that time? 2 reason for salvage title-seeing no significant damage underneath doesn't seem like door/rocker would be nearly enough, especially, as suggested by the PF #, the door is original. Certainly one weak point is the exhaust valves are prone to metal fatigue (that applies to any Ferrari with sodium filled valves built up to about 1982). There seems to be no logic to the failures which can happen on high or low mileage cars (although the smaller engine cars that tend to run more with higher rpm are marginally more prone), and certainly should be replaced as a preventative measure if the engine is being opened up anyway. \r\n\r\nAlso when the engine on one of my Dad's 330GTS' (Spider GTC) was rebuilt our mechanic had a lot of trouble getting the new head gasket to seal as the modern replacement ones' were just not up to the job. In the end I think the head had to be machined slightly to get a proper seal?\r\n\r\nNot really sure on rebuild costs for a 330GTC. Even good shops will forget the hidden torque tube carrier bearings (3) that are not serviceable until the 'tube' is removed, and only after first removing the trasaxle behind it. Lots of time involved in getting it all working smoothly. The head gaskets are a real headache, as mentioned earlier, as these engines have cylinder sleeves that protrude proudly above the deck, intentionally, by a sliver. They don't ever all sit evenly! A side photo of this car shows the front end sitting precariously low at the front: new springs would be in order. IMHO, you don't get that raw bark and long pull between shifts with the newer cars. \r\nWanting reliability and perfection, I have had work done before it was needed. Total engine and transaxle rebuild, suspension and carbs and many other minor things have resulted in full confidence when I hit the road. My advice to who ever gets this car is do your homework on shops ( not all are equal), be prepared to wait in line for a while when you find a good one and don't cut corners. I did have a chance to check into the oil cooler question. Horns are always mounted in front of radiator regardless of oil cooler presence btw.\r\n Up to approx #8843 no oil coolers at all Up to approx #9893 a single external oil cooler\r\nUp to approx 10100 double external oil cooler. These oil coolers were easily seen from the front, mounted directly behind the grille on either side of the overflow tank.\r\nAfter approx 10100 the oil cooler was incorporated into the radiator.\r\n\r\nMy bad on the exhaust tips which were Abarth or Ceretto, not Cerutti, the mufflers were Galetti or Spacem- these parts would be listed on the build sheets.
