Our family owned one from new, but it was the Canadian version of the Newport, a Windsor. The whitewalls are correct, as are the wheel covers (I washed them on many a Saturday). The dashboard brings back many memories, but being a lower model, ours had the dash-mounted push-button transmission selector with the lever for putting the car in park. Love the rectangular steering wheel. I agree with someone earlier who said it is a great looking dashboard for the era. \n\nNow one big item is missing. There should be a HUGE double chrome strip that starts above the headlights and wraps around the side where it opens up into a double strip about 2 1/2\" apart with a contrasting colour between the strips and ends just short of the rear corner where the strips connect again. Top me, this is a defining piece of the design. Unfortunately it is missing. \nThough ours was only equipped with the 361 cu. in. V-8, it still had lots of power and effortlessly hauled a travel trailer over the Rockies, though it did want to overheat in the Mojave Desert. Lots of trips. It has the cross rams. What a delightful car. Styling looks better in person, though the front end is a tad brutal. They all came with painted white pinstripes from the factory, the vinyl re-do's here are close to correct, but should continue around the front and terminate near the grill. The '64 wheels are 14s, if you can find them (as the PO of my car did), the '63s are prettier 15's. They were a victim to cost-cutting. The '63 J sold less than 500 cars, so the '64 was value-engineered to cost less. They succeeded, selling over 3000 examples, the most of any letter car, so it worked. The push button section of the dash controls the HVAC, unlike on the base 300's, with the shifter on the console. The cars need big rubber to fill the wheel well depth visually, and to transfer all of that power to the pavement. The designers begged for a wider axle for the car, but that was not to be. The K's were also available with an adjustable round steering wheel, which mine has. These cars are an incredible buy for what you get, though part supply is not like other marques enjoy. There are active clubs and suppliers to help though. Be the only one at the show. Unfortunately, this was after I'd gone off to college, so I seldom had an opportunity to drive it, and when I did, I found it somewhat overwhelming. My driver was a 64 Newport 4dr HT with a 361 and manual drum brakes -- you might think it would be a similar experience but it was night and day. I used to flog that Newport, but the same techniques didn't work at all with the 300K. I seldom managed to bring the K to a stop without tire screeching (the power disks required a feathery touch which I never managed to acquire), and launches were the same story -- flooring it with the 413 often resulted in more tire smoke than progress. And I was too intimidated to try testing the K on the curves, though I was notorious for drifting the Newport. Basically, too much car for an inexperienced driver. I found it in Anniston, AL, for all of $1,350 dollars needing only new leather for the driver's seat and a ring and valve job, plus a little aluminum welding under one of the 2 four barrel carbs. That car shifted out of second gear at 96 mph, and jumped into drive like it really meant it! It had the \"short\" version of the ram induction (15\" divided and 15\" open), so it was tuned for top end, not for mid-range like the 30\" divided rams like my 300G. A sheik from Kuwait bought it and had it shipped there before the war. I often wonder whether it survived the Iraqi occupation. Of course I am sorry I ever sold it. The same for my 300C convert bought by Joe Boertz of Chicago. The engine is the original engine. It is date coded 02-11 HP which is the date of Feb 11, 1964 and the car is dated 02-12 on the Data Plate which is the day after the engine date. I mentioned that I am not a paint expert, but I can tell you that the paint looks DAMM GOOD! And so does the Chrome! The car is in the best shape that I can get it in which is one of the reasons I am selling. It takes me about 12 hours to clay bar, polish and wax the car. I am not trying to flip a car, I hope to recover my cost. I bought the car because of memories going back to when I grew up and it is the best way to get a Letter Series car. We had the Newport version of this body style and I remember my oldest brother explaining to our Father that speed limits are for \"old people\" He had come home with a ticket for doing 105 in the Newport!
