It had vinyl upholstery but otherwise the interiors were similar. The Cruiser also had Studebaker branded seat belts, the 289 V8, automatic transmission, and front disc brakes, but it also had air conditioning. I was surprised to see that a front passenger side head rest could be optioned without a separate head rest for the driver! My father\u2019s Studebaker had head rests for both driver and front passenger. Studebaker had vanities in the glove box for the 1963 model year. I would appreciate it if @CompassCollective could show whether or not this very nice Wagonaire has the vanity glove box. The 1963 model Studebakers had a number of firsts for American cars including the availability of front disc brakes, the vanity glove box, and the sliding roof for the Wagonaire. The 289 V8 provided very good acceleration for the day, and my father\u2019s car could hit an indicated 110 miles per hour on the no speed limit section of Highway 80 in Nevada with 4 people in the car and their luggage! The headlights do have a yellow/orange tint to them, but not as pronounced as the beach shots show (and probably very similar to your Trans Am \"Randit\" \u2013 for those that don't know Randy raced and won an IMSA championship with us a few years back). The Raymond Loewy and Brooks Stevens connection ran deep and wide at Studebaker. Loewy's company was hired by Studebaker in 1938 and Raymond Loewy and Associates did Studebaker styling up to calendar year (as opposed to model year) 1955. Early on in this association Robert Bourke was Loewy's man at Studebaker. Bourke is best known for the stellar '53-'54 Starliner/Starlight coupes. Bourke also did much of the work on the sedans that debuted in '53 but were not built off of the coupe platform. That was an unfortunate decision by Studebaker management. Both Bourke and Loewy fought against that but didn't get their way. The resulting sedans were not a success in the market and the coupes, even with the production problems, Studebaker management also to blame here, outsold the sedans. That's the setup for what follows. That 1953 sedan platform served Studebaker right up to the end in 1966. Brooks Stevens began a staged freshening of that platform beginning with the 1962 models. This '63 wagon is part of that Stevens programme. So the '53 Loewy (Bourke) platform underpins this Stevens-styled '63 wagon. In the photo I attached below in a previous comment showing a refrigerator in the back of a Wagonaire - Loewy gets a word in here, too! The refrigerator has an IH logo on it. The famous \"Farmer on a Tractor\" IH logo was designed by Raymond Loewy and Associates. They are not at all common and few are in as nice a shape as this one. Terrific to see one with the disc brakes, power rear window, the 289 and the original headliner. (Looks like it has been painted, the original had a silver starburst design on it) A couple of comments. First there is a wealth of information on the Studebaker Wagonaire Registry website (only 111 Wagonaire's registered). The website is run by the Studebaker Drivers Club and the moderator is Nick Dynis. Very knowledgeable and helpful. The club has a large and active membership with a wealth of technical knowledge, a wonderful monthly magazine and great, once a year vendors issue. \r\nAs mentioned in previous posts the leaks were common if the seals were not maintained and the drain holes kept clear. More than one Wagonaire owner has stories about a sudden stop and getting a bath of cold rainwater on the back of the neck. \r\nI believe the dash cover and vanity mirror set-up is from a 1964 or later model. Of course it is always possible the factory made some late 63 models with 64 updates. \r\nThanks for listing this on BAT.
