Gear selector was on the steering column, and I think it even had manual roll up windows - Pretty base model. It did have a rather large engine and could move like a BaT out of hell though. Loved the rolling speedo and the rocker type switches on the dash. This car is simply beautiful. Even though we never had one of these, it does have connections to two other Buicks my family owned. We also had a 1966 Buick, except it was the bottom of the line Special post sedan with the V-6. It was the same color maroon as this Riviera was. The maroon color looked as good on the lowly Special as it did on the Riviera. GM brought this color back in 1983 when they introduced the front-drive \"A\" cars -- Chevy Celebrity, Buick Century, et al. Didn't seem to work as well with the angular lines of those early 80s cars. \n\nOur 1973 Buick LeSabre had the Speed Alert. In this case, it was set using the same knob that reset the trip odometer. You turned it to reset one and pushed it in to reset the other. In '73, the Speed Alert was a yellow line that you could move up and down the speedometer...even bury it past 120 if you were so inclined. When the speedometer needle hit the yellow line, it touched off a buzzer that sounded like the early smoke detector alarms from that same era, but much quieter. The buzzer itself seemed almost seemed inconsistent, like it was ready to die. We seldom bumped it, but I do remember my father passing a truck and having it running past the Speed Alert for the longest period of time that I could recall...maybe 10 or 15 seconds. \n\nIt's kind of funny that new cars now have that in their \"menu options\" for their dashboard displays. I had it on my VW Jetta and Nissan Rogue. I typically set it around 85 mph. There's just no need for me to go faster than that. Even when my wife's water broke with our daughter, I only took our 4Runner up to 90 on the Interstate while rushing to the hospital. I was working for a Buick dealership in Miami when these came out. I got my 1966 Riviera in 1976. I still have it and it only has 29,xxx original miles. It is white with the plum color strato bench interior. Mine has the 425 nailhead engine with the factory engine dress-up kit (aluminum valve covers and large diameter chrome air cleaner). These are a wonderful road car. Mine will cruise at illegal speeds all day long or till the man stops me.\n\nIt is amazing the number of things that are changed and done wrong to a vehicle that has survived 50 plus years. With many \"mechanics\" who probably were not born yet when these fine automobiles were built, the Riviera is lucky to have survived in such nice condition.\n\nThe seller list new motor mounts. That should explain the missing fan shroud. When the original left motor mount would break, it would let the engine raise up enough the fan would break the plastic/fiberglass shroud. The replacement mount should have a safety catch to prevent this. Buicks with AC will run hot without the shroud. Hard to find and expensive when found. The other missing item is the detent/stator control switch. The switch should be on the left side of the intake manifold where someone put a throttle return spring with what looks like a home made bracket at the rear manifold bolt. The throttle return spring is on the arm at the firewall. With out the detent/stator control switch, the transmission will not downshift properly and the variable pitch stator in the converter will not function. The variable pitch converter was only used from 1965 thru 1967. It was an amazing feature on the Super Turbine 400 transmission.\n\nI like the idea of wooden door pulls. These base model Riviera's had plastic pulls that would break if they got loose. Not authentic but serves the purpose in a driver. The upscale wooden steering wheel would be in an authentic GS. They had problems with the horn bars breaking off. By now should be impossible to find unless someone is reproducing them. I would replace the steering wheel with the original three spoke wheel that the Riviera probably original came with. 1966 and 1967 Riviera's, Electra's and Wildcats use the same wheel. The 1966 horn pads are chrome and 1967 black plastic.\nThe ignition lock cylinder is wrong for the car. It should be smooth, slightly dished and the key slot should be vertical in the off position. The missing clock knob should be an easy fix. \n\nFrom the looks of the spare tire wheel, this Riviera was probably a wheel cover equipped vehicle. The chrome wheels are later model with very late model caps. The original chrome wheels were very slightly different in the center and finished in gray, not black. The original caps were much larger, had a rib design and would of had a Riviera \"R\" in the center. The original wheels would not fit later full size Buick's with disk brakes.\n\nI am not trying to knock this Riviera but I feel it will bring top dollar on looks alone. I hate to see someone buying the vehicle and not realizing what they are buying and not fully enjoying it. The seller probably was not born when this Riviera was built and doesn't realize the little things that are not right. Like I said, a lot of things can happen and be changed in 50 plus years. Properly prepared and some issues corrected, this should be a wonderful, enjoyable vehicle to drive. It is a beautiful Riviera and I hope it sells to someone who will drive it and enjoy it.
