They are very rare and the interior was a much higher standard than the other variants like the 430 or the Spyder. The later cars like this have the 4-Speed ZF automatic and it is a joy to drive. The car is wider than the 430, the wheels look the same but are actually a different offset to compensate for the width, so the cornering is somewhat better, however it is a GT. Yes the A/C was working as well. 12C with some sun is still hot in Vancouver FYI. Thinking more as a hedge against inflation. I see loads of newer Maserati don't hold their value and the ones from the 1980s & 1990s don't fare well either. I was looking at this auction and that car has remarkably similar styling to a Cadillac Allante? Does anyone on this site know if the Allante bodies were made by Maserati? I know they were made in Italy and flown to the US on 747s but who actually built them. That is another car that does not seem to appreciate but I think looks pretty cool.\r\n\r\nI enjoy watching this site because I see cars I have owned over the last 40 years as daily drivers that I sold at 60,000 miles [that is my typical exit point on a car] that I traded in and only got $5,000 to $15,000 that now sell for $30k or more. Plenty of driving impressions on my Instagram account under \"lambolm002\". But for those of you on the sidelines wondering if these are worth the price of admission, I will answer an unequivocal YES!! The driving experience is quite unlike anythign else I've driven - including the other cars currently in my collection - offering an interesting and exciting alternative to other 80s sport sedans like the BMW 325i, Audi 90 Quattro, Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 and 2.6 (if you can find one with a manual), and Peugeot 405 Mi16 which I regrettably sold. There's a hand made quality in the Maserati that imparts a very special character which is lacking in the, other mass produced sedans. And even the 190e 2.3-16 which was made in far lesser numbers. Passing power, particularly at highway speeds, feels limitless, with the smallish IHI turbos spooling quickly. The car is sprung softly, although helper springs have stiffened things up considerably on mine and strike a perfect balance between comfort and sport. Steering is accurate and transmits plenty of feel while the brakes are a bit over servoed bit stop the car \"fine\". The interior quality and materials are beyond all expectations and is something that truly needs to be experienced with all 5 senses first hand. It's also a surprisingly quiet car on the highway with minimal wind noise and excellent sealing.\n\nThe big question many are probably wondering is are these actually reliable, useable classics? My take is that any 228 / 430 is now the better part of 30 years old, so most gremlins have probably been sorted. On mine, the crank position sensor wiring was mangled (by a preivous mechanic?) and was causing running issues. Since remedying this, the only other mechanical failure I've experienced was the clutch master. Otherwise, just issues with speedo sender, electronic heater valve (Ferrari 348 uses the same one), and the fuse box. These cars came from the factory with notorious bad soldering / wiring in the fuse box, so I bought a rebuilt one on Ebay and haven't had any issues since. \n\nAs others have mentioned, these are the best of the Biturbo breed and offer an exotic driving experience at the price of a used Corolla. I agree with @Mike_K that power seems limitless when the turbos spool up. Super quick cars, and hand built and rarity makes them special. Later years are pretty well engineered and parts are available through MIE, so little reason to hesitate. Don't bother with the dealer, they haven't seen these in their shops in decades.
