There were about 7000 SL230s of all types produced worldwide in 2008 and about 16000 in 2007 (and more in 2006), based on the last 6 digits of the VIN. I have to test every one of those digits 11x to see if I get a hit at that number. The WDBSK is common, \u201874\u2019 or \u201872\u2019 between the \u2018F\u2019s denotes the SL55 (74 early, 72 late), the next digit is the one in 11 variable (0-9 plus \u2018X\u2019 which MBZ refers to as \u201810\u2019) followed by the year (6, 7, 8..). So, to test 100 6-digit VINs, means 1100 separate inquiries. I developed an Excel macro that generates all the possible VIN combinations within a range and another macro that opens 110 web tabs at a time. Then it\u2019s a matter on clicking on each tab to see if you get a hit. When I have located all the SL55s for a given year, I can cross-check that with AMG, so I know if I am pretty close. Then its easy to pull out the P30s. Sounds tedious and it is, but it is also satisfying to get to the bottom of it.
